Glimpses of the past....the changing face of Bishop's University

The banner above is comprised of vintage postcards of Bishop's University, which used to be called Bishop's College, or the University of Bishop's College. Postcards are just one type of photographic group found in the University Archives, the most common of course, being the standard black and white or colour print photographs. Click on the banner to see a full view of the postcards.

Featured below is an interesting view of McGreer Hall or Old Arts, as it was formerly known:

This view certainly seems unfamiliar.  Of course, that is because the Old Library has not yet been constructed. It was added in 1909. Ivy clings to walls, and the arches, known then as the cloisters, were open in the traditional English style. In those days, the quad was unformed and unpaved, and one could drive right through the main arch. The arches were altered when McGreer Hall was being renovated in time for the Sesquicentennial celebrations in 1993-1994. The lines on the picture indicate that this image was in fact either a glass slide or glass negative, and it had been cracked or broken.
