Staff Award History

Introduction

In 2001, Bishop's University launched the Bishop's University Staff Award, given to a member of the Bishop's staff in recognition of outstanding contribution to the University. This award recognises the critical contribution of members of the Bishop's staff to the mission of the University and to the quality of services across the campus. The award takes the form of a public plaque on which the name of the annual recipient is engraved. The recipient will be announced and honoured at the holiday event and will receive a personal plaque award. Past recipients are :

Eligibility

Eligible candidates for this award are regular full-time or regular part-time employees, who are not members of the Faculty or Officers of the University.

The Jury

The jury is made up of one representative of Staff, one representative of the Faculty Council, one representative of the SRC and a community member designated by the Human Resources Committee of Corporation, and the previous recipient of the award.  Its decision is final and cannot be appealed.

In its deliberations, the jury will consider one or more of the following criteria: 

  • Demonstrates outstanding competence in the execution of his or her duties;
  • Displays great collegiality and team spirit in dealing with colleagues and other members of the community;
  • Provides an exceptional level of service;
  • Has been the source of a significant beneficial innovation on the delivery of high-quality service;
  • Shows deep respect for others and accepts with grace and tolerance the minor ups-and-downs that are part of the normal environment;
  • Has contributed to improving the quality of life at Bishop's, through the completion of regular duties or through significant committee work;
  • Contributes to the creation of a healthy work environment by displaying a positive attitude and by acting with integrity and goodwill;
  • Has acted in such a way as to enhance Bishop's reputation, either internally or in the broader environment.

The jury may wish to consider other criteria in its selection and has the discretion to do so. The jury will also be asked to make any other recommendation it sees fit in order to build the high reputation of this award.

Nominations

Nominations will be accepted by any member of the Bishop's community, i.e.  staff, faculty, students, alumni and friends. An individual may make only one nomination and must do so on the designated form. The nominator must also provide ten supporting signatures for the nomination.
