The Hot Jazz Trio launched their first CD, “Shuffletown
Blue”, at a
concert at Bandeen Hall, Bishop’s University, Sherbrooke,
Québec on Friday,
November 7, 2008.
On the concert programme the Trio performed selections from
this new CD, along with other hot numbers by Mingus, Montgomery and
McLaughlin. The disc includes many original compositions by Andrew
Paul MacDonald such as the jazz-rock opening title track Shuffletown
Blue and the bop-inspired Dreamlander.
The group’s drummer,
Kevin
Sullivan, also wrote great tunes for the disc such as Faraway
Blues and
Tune for Danielle. Rounding out the disc are
some zippy bop pieces by
Lennie Tristano, Horace Silver and others. The Trio was joined by guest
artist Michael Hynes who provided some stunning piano work on several
tracks.
The “Shuffletown Blue” CD has been generating a lot of interest in the
Sherbrooke area since the launch with articles and reviews in the
Sherbrooke Record, La Tribune and La Nouvelle and radio/TV interviews
on CBC and VOXTV. You can get your own very copy of “Shuffletown Blue”
