Health Services wants to emphasize the importance of having your Medicare card with you when you come to the clinic. Quebec students who do not have their cards or who present cards that have expired will be required to pay the full cost of services immediately.
Canadian students from another province are fully covered by their provincial medicare plans provided they:

- Inform the Ministry of Health in their home province that they are studying in Quebec before they leave home;
- Have their Provincial Medicare card with them when they come to see the doctor. If their card is unavailable or has expired, the full cost of services must be paid immediately.
- Are full-time students.
All International and exchange students are required to have health coverage while studying full time in Quebec and for the full duration of their stay. Students admitted to Bishop's University will receive by mid-July or mid-November, a Health Insurance Application Form along with a brochure describing the benefits. The Insurance Plan is offered by the Expert Travel Financial Security (ETFS) which is based in Sherbrooke and offers services to International students in Quebec.
All international and exchange students are required to complete the application form and return it to the Business Office with their payment by the required deadline in order to validate their registration before the start of the semester.
Information for students from:
Denmark, Finland, France, Luxemburg, Norway, Portugal and Sweden
International and exchange students from entente countries may apply for Quebec's Medicare Program (Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec - RAMQ) while studying full time in Quebec. These countries have an agreement with the Quebec Government concerning health coverage for university students.
Applying for a RAMQ card is a process which may take 6 to 8 weeks and may only be done once you arrive in Quebec. Note that all international and exchange students are still required to buy coverage with ETFS. If you choose to apply for a RAMQ card, you will be eligible for a refund from ETFS, however, only upon receipt of the RAMQ card and providing there have been no claims with ETFS. To be eligible for the refund, you will also be required to show a copy of your RAMQ card directly to employees in the Business Office at Bishop's University.
