Concentrations in Art Education, Curriculum Studies and Educational Leadership

GSE 510– Academic Reading and Writing
This course is designed to facilitate students' ability to (1) read, synthesize and analyze academic articles, books and other primary source texts and (2) express their knowledge and ideas in a scholarly fashion using the conventions defined by academic journals. Different types of research articles will be examined and strategies for reading each type explored.

Bishop's University Campus
Schedule:Saturdays, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on September 25, October16 and November 13 and December 4 and 11, and regular additional time on-line. Please note that the December 11 class will be a combined final class of student presentations; it will be required for all students in both courses GSE 510 and GSE 512.

Academic Reading and Writing is a required course for all concentrations: Curriculum Studies, Educational Leadership and Art Education.  There is no pre-requisite for this course.

GSE 512– Research Methods I
This introductory course in research in education is designed for those students who wish to offer themselves as candidates for the degree of M.Ed. at Bishop's University but will also be useful for teachers who wish to evaluate current research in education. This course will include topics such as the role of research in education, selection of a research topic, generation of a research question, research methods, qualitative and quantitative analysis, interpretation of data, limitations of research, and presentation of research results.

Fees for Quebec Resident Students:    
3 credits / 1 course:    $224.22
6 credits / 2 courses:   $433.44
Fees for Out-of-Province Students: 3 credits / 1 course:    $584.19
6 credits / 2 courses:    $1,153.38
All students must pay upon registration.                
Application fee is $60.00 (for new students only).

Registration Deadline:                              Tuesday, September 7, 2010

Add/Drop Deadline:                                   Tuesday, September 21, 2010
(Students are allowed to drop a registered course with refund of tuition fees.)

Withdraw with Permission Deadline:    Thursday, October 28, 2010
(The transcript will indicate (WP) that the student withdrew.  Tuition fees are not refunded.
