The Education programme has been a part of the tradition at Bishop’s University since teacher training began at the university in 1898.
Graduates are teaching in all parts of Canada, in the United States and overseas, but special emphasis is given to preparing teachers to work in English schools in rural Quebec.

The School of Education prepares students to assume leadership roles in education. As a teaching and learning institution, the mission of the School of Education is to develop, in collaboration with the community, reflective and exemplary educators dedicated to excellence in education, by providing theoretically informed, and practice-oriented programmes founded on social responsibility and respect for individual dignity.
The School of Education at Bishop’s University offers a variety of programmes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. These programmes include a two-step programme leading to initial teacher certification, in either elementary education or secondary education, and give five graduate programmes for practicing teachers and educational administrators/leaders. Classes are small, frequently taking the form of interactive dialogues among the participants. Both students and faculty come from all levels of the education system and from all parts of Canada and beyond. In collaboration with the Quebec Learning Consortium, the School of Education provides many, innovative professional development opportunities for both preservice and practicing teachers.
