Gaiters' season closes with shutout by Montreal

Women's Indoor Soccer concluded its season last weekend with a 4-0 loss to the top-seeded Montreal Carabins in a Quebec University Indoor Soccer League quarter-final in St-Eustache. Éva Thouvenot-Hébert paced the Carabins with three goals, while Audrey Lagresle added a single. Thouvenot-Hébert was the player of the game for Montreal, while defender Katie Montelpare earned similar honours for Bishop's.


Gaiters shut out in first road contest

The Gaiters took to the road for the first time last weekend, with a visit to the Laval Rouge et Or on Sunday afternoon. While they suffered a 3-0 shutout loss to the league leaders, it was a marked improvement over last year's 9-0 drubbing at the hands of Laval. Koula Trichas and Becky Yates played one half each in net for the Gaiters, while Frédérique Cloutier was the Gaiters' Player of the Game. Virginie Jacques scored twice for Laval, with Gabrielle Verret scoring the other goal for the Rouge et Or, who have yet to concede a goal this year.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters (0-3) will host the Concordia Stingers (0-3) on Friday night at the Centre Multisport Roland-Dussault in Fleurimont. The Stingers have yet to score a goal this season.


Gaiters shut out at home by Montreal

A pair of braces by Véronique Laverdière and Éva Thouvent-Hébert paced the Montreal Carabins (1-0-1) to a 6-0 victory over the Gaiters on Friday night in Fleurimont. Montreal's other goals came from Virginie Lévesque and Isabelle Dumais. Katie Wallace was the player of the game for the Gaiters.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters (0-2) will visit the Laval Rouge et Or (2-0) on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy. The Rouge et Or have yet to concede a goal in two games this season.


Gaiters drop Indoor Soccer opener to McGill

A four-goal first half was too much for the Gaiters as the McGill Martlets cruised to a 5-2 victory in the opening game of the Quebec University Indoor Soccer League season on Friday night in Fleurimont. Second-year striker Stephanie Burnett led the Gaiters with two goals, while defender Katie Montelpare was the MVP for the Gaiters, who were forced to play with only one substitute. For McGill, Zohra Bendoulah and Alexandra Morin-Boucher each bagged a pair, while Claire Hooper had a goal and an assist. Becky Yates made three saves in the Bishop’s net, while Shimone Slomowitz picked up the win for McGill.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters (0-1) host the Montréal Carabins (1-0) on Friday night at the Centre Multisport Roland-Dussault in Fleurimont. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m.


Laura Keeler named QSSF Indoor Soccer All-Star

LENNOXVILLE – Laura Keeler (Jordan Bay, N.S.), of the Bishop's Gaiters has been named a Quebec University Indoor Soccer League Second Team All-Star. The league office in Montreal made the announcement today. Keeler is the first Gaiter to win an award in Indoor Soccer.

Keeler, a 5 foot 5 inch midfielder, started all seven regular-season games on the left wing in the indoor season, and has developed into a stalwart in the Gaiters' young midfield. The former Shelburne Rebel has impressed throughout the league's indoor season with her strength, agility and patience under pressure.
