1982-83 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM
National Champions


The 1982-83 women's basketball team went undefeated in league play and then swept through the CIAU National Championships with a perfect 3-0 record to claim Bishop's University's first Canadian crown.

They opened the Nationals with a 77-40 victory over UNB, downed Brock 60-42 in the semi-finals and they upended Victoria 64-49 in the title game.

Andrea Blackwell was selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player and joined teammate Lynn Polson on the All-Canadian team.

The team was coached by Wayne Hussey and team members included Andrea Blackwell, Lynn Polson, Wendy Verrecchia, Lisa Moore, Bonnie MacNaughton, Cathy Logue, Fiona Seymour, Senj Temple, Wendy Waters and Joanne Gordon.


1983-84 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM
National Champions

The 1983-84 women's basketball team suffered two rare league losses during the regular season but that didn't stop them from sweeping through the National Tournament and claiming their second consecutive CIAU National crown.

The Gaiters pounded Manitoba 89-57 in the first round, beat Brock 60-42 in the semis and defeated Winnipeg 70-62 in the finals.

Andrea Blackwell and Lynn Polson shared the tournament's Most Valuable Player Award and the pair were also named to the All-Canadian team.

Head coach Wayne Hussey was selected as the CIAU Coach of the Year, the second time in his illustrious career that he was so honoured.

Members of the team included Andrea Blackwell, Lynn Polson, Wendy Verrecchia, Wendy Waters, Joanne Gordon, Michelle O'Keefe, Lisa Moore, Fiona Seymour, Alison Booth and Kelly Tucker. 


1997-98 MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM
National Champions


The 1997-98 Men's Basketball Team completed an outstanding season by capturing the CIAU National Championship with three exciting victories in Halifax before over 300 supporters in the Metro Center.

The team captured the Quebec conference with a 18-2 record (30-6 overall) and was ranked number one in Canada in January.

Still, they shocked many when they swept past Alberta (75-67), Victoria (78-76) and McMaster (74-71) in the finals as they demonstrated great team work and determination.

Ryan Thorne was selected as the tournament MVP while Eddie Pomykala was chosen the CIAU Coach of the Year.

Team members included Patrice Lemieux, Markus Rudousakis, Joel Sherbino, Rob Burns, Dwayne Ells, Sam Rodgers, Greg Southward, Jamie Woods, Ryan Thorne, Shaun Craik, Same Menard, Brian Woods, Andrew Carter, Stewart Clark, Kris Ruiter, Remi Aucoin, Tommy Sutton (manager), Chris Forsthye (student assistant), athletic therapist Steve King and coaches Jeff Harris and Eddie Pomykala.
