Eryn Hessian

LENNOXVILLE – Eryn Hessian, the Head Coach of the Bishop's Gaiters Women's Rugby team, will carry the Olympic Torch tomorrow as it passes through eastern Quebec.

Hessian is scheduled to carry the torch for approximately 300 metres through the town of Asbsetos tomorrow at 4:19 p.m.

Hessian, who teaches math and science at Stanstead College, earned the opportunity to participate in the relay by answering a question a day on the relay website every day for three months with her Grade 7 students last year. This allowed her 93 entries in a random draw and was selected to write an essay on "living Olympic," in which she discussed such virtues as volunteerism, healthy lifestyles and mentorship.

Hessian led the Gaiters to a 2-4 record this year, and is a two-time winner of the Quebec University Rugby Union's Coach of the Year award.

The Olympic torch will pass by the Bishop's University campus at approximately 6:25 p.m. on Saturday, two hours after Hessian's leg of the relay. The relay can be viewed on CTV's webstream.
