FOOTBALL (1-4, T-5th QUFL)
Gaiters use bye week to prepare for Bigg Bowl

The Gaiters were off last week, as the QUFL took a league-wide bye for the Thanksgiving holiday. This allowed the Gaiters an extra week to prepare for their only AUS opponent of the season, the St. FX X-Men (5-0), who defeated Acadia 21-10 last week.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters head to Antigonish, N.S. for the latest renewal of the Bigg Bowl series against St. FX. Kickoff at Antigonish is set for 2 p.m. Atlantic (1 p.m. Eastern)

MEN’S BASKETBALL (0-0)
Men's Hoops season gets underway this weekend

Men's Basketball's season tips off this weekend, as the Gaiters make the first of two trips to Ottawa. This week, they will play Saskatchewan, UPEI and the host Carleton Ravens at the House-Laughton Invitational.

A full season preview will be posted to the Gaiters’ website later this week

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (1-2)
Women's Basketball goes 1-2 on Western trip

Women's Basketball had a successful trip to Edmonton last weekend, as they went 1-2 at the Alberta Pandas Hoopfest - their first win in their last three trips to that tournament. Jessy Roy was named to the All-Tournament team, as she scored 26 points and grabbed 14 rebounds over the three games. Mélanie Ouellet-Godcharles led the Gaiters' scorers with 27 points.

FRIDAY: ALBERTA 54, GAITERS 50
On Friday, the Gaiters
dropped their opening game of the season, a 54-50 loss in Edmonton to the host Alberta Pandas. The game featured two ties and 14 lead changes until Alberta went ahead for good with 3:48 left in the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, Bishop's took their largest lead when they led 47-39 with 8:55 to play. However, the Pandas went on a 14-2 run over the next six minutes to take the lead for good. Roy was the only Gaiter in double figures with ten points, while Felicia Craig-Thompson had eight points, and Marie-Ève Lemoine had seven.

SATURDAY: GAITERS 68, REGINA 64
Marie-Ève Lemoine's 14 points led the Gaiters to their first win of the season, a 68-64 triumph over the Regina Cougars. Lemoine was 6-for-12 from the field as she tied her career high for points in a game. Mélanie Ouellet-Godcharles added 13 points for the Gaiters, as she made three three-pointers. The Gaiters trailed 34-31 at halftime, but narrowed the margin to one point after three quarters. A pair of free throws by rookie forward Bethan Chalke with 1:08 to go gave the Gaiters the lead for good, while Jessy Roy went 5-for-6 from the line in the last minute to put the game away.

SUNDAY: WINDSOR 51, GAITERS 43
A poor-shooting first half doomed the Gaiters on Sunday afternoon as they fell 51-43 to the Windsor Lancers. Bishop's shot only 5-for-24 (20.8%) from the field in the first half, and was held to single digits in each of the first two periods. The Lancers took advantage of the Gaiters' shooting woes to build up a 29-13 halftime lead as they cruised to their third straight victory. Mélanie Ouellet-Godcharles and Jessy Roy led the Gaiters with eight points each, while Gabrielle Côté-Caouette added seven.

UP NEXT: Women's Basketball is off this week, but returns to action in two weeks at the Don Grant Invitational in Moncton, N.B. from Oct. 23-25.

WOMEN’S SOCCER (1-6-2, 7th QUSL)
Gaiters avenge Homecoming defeat with a tie at Sherbrooke

WEDNESDAY: SHERBROOKE 1, GAITERS 1
On Thursday night, the Gaiters picked up their first point against Sherbrooke in more than five years, as they drew 1-1 with the Vert & Or at the U de S stadium.
Chloé Belhumeur-Limoges scored her seventh goal of the season in the 18th minute, as the Vert & Or took a 1-0 lead. However, the Gaiters tied it just before halftime, as Linda Guerrera headed in a cross by Stephanie Burnett, giving the visitors a share of the spoils. Guerrera was the Gaiters' Player of the Game, while Belhumeur-Limoges won similar honours for Sherbrooke.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters are back at Coulter Field for a pair of games this week. The Laval Rouge et Or (5-3-0) visit on Friday night at 6 p.m., while UQTR (3-5-0) are the visitors on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters return to action on Sunday, October 18 when they visit Sherbrooke (0-4). Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.

WOMEN’S RUGBY (1-4, 5th QURU)
Gaiters dump Sherbrooke to end 17-game winless streak

THURSDAY: GAITERS 42, SHERBROOKE 0:
LENNOXVILLE - Two tries and a conversion from Sue Magwood led the Gaiters to a 42-0 win over the Sherbrooke Vert et Or on Thursday night at Coulter Field. A boisterous crowd of 50 braved the chilly night air to cheer the Gaiters on to their first regular-season victory in more three years. The Gaiters were dominant in the first half, as they kept ball possession through multiple phases, and kept the play in the Sherbrooke end of the field for almost the entire 40 minutes, running up a 32-0 halftime lead.

Also scoring tries for the Gaiters were Katie Allen, Frances Bajdik-Bova, Ashley Grant, Melanie Black, Meredith Evans and Allix Laffoley-Cartier. In the second half, Sherbrooke's Isabelle Boucher threatened to break the shutout, as she had a pair of long runs, however try-saving tackles by LeeAnna Coates and Jacquie Laidler kept the clean sheet in tact. Laidler's strong defensive play kept the Vert et Or out of the end zone, and her leadership in the back line drove several Gaiter possessions.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters head to Sherbrooke (0-5) for the final match of the regular season on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

LACROSSE (5-1, 1st CUFLA East)
Gaiters take pair of exhibition games against Cégep squads

While the Gaiters had no league action last week, they did play a pair of exhibition games against teams from the Cégep league. On Friday, the Gaiters defeated the St-Jean-de-Brebeuf 19-3. Mike Dubé led the way with eight points (4G, 4A), while Joe Laleune and André Laleune each had hat tricks, with Josh Crone and Alex Dubé contributing two goals each.

On Sunday, it was more one-way traffic as the Gaiters downed the John Abbott Islanders 16-1. Jesse Gattellaro scored four goals, while Joe Laleune and Andre Laleune had three goals each, with Andrew MacKay adding a pair.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters will play an exhibition game against the Champlain Cougars - the defending Cégep champions - on Wednesday at 9 p.m. before heading down to Southern Ontario for the weekend. On Sunday, the Gaiters will face the Toronto Varsity Blues in Toronto at 2 p.m.
