Lacrosse wins highlight Gaiter weekend, Homecoming set for this week

Weekly Release #4
September 28, 2009

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:

The Bishop's Gaiters Athletes of the Week are Mike Dubé of the Men's Lacrosse team and Jacquie Laidler of the Women’s Rugby team.

Dubé, a third-year attackman from Brockville, Ont., led the Gaiters to an 18-8 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday at Coulter Field. Dubé scored seven goals and six assists as the Gaiters cruised to the victory. Dubé leads the Gaiters, and is second in the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association, with 21 points (13G, 5A) in five games.

Laidler, a rookie from North Vancouver, B.C., was the Gaiters’ player of the game on Sunday afternoon. She moved to the outside centre spot on Sunday and closed down gaps in the Gaiter defence. Her consistent play on both offence and defense kept the Gaiters off of the back foot. She pressured the ball and helped slow down McGill’s speedy backs.
