LENNOXVILLE – A pair of 16-point efforts from Katy Germain (Val d’Or, Que.) and Gabrielle Côté-Caouette led the Bishop’s Gaiters to a 67-60 win over the Waterloo Warriors at the Classique des Citadins in Montreal. The win improves the Gaiters to 2-0 in the six-team tournament. The Gaiters broke the game open with a 28-point third quarter, and cruised to the victory. The first half featured seven ties and three lead changes, as neither team was able to gain an early advantage. Côté-Caouette put the Gaiters ahead for good as her jumper made the score 28-26 at the end of the first half. The Gaiters put the game away early in the third quarter, as Mélanie Ouellet-Godcharles scored five of her seven points during a 14-2 run to open the half. Rookie forward Bethan Chalke (North Vancouver, B.C.) gave the Gaiters their biggest lead of the night at 50-35 with 3:00 left in the period. Germain and Côté-Caouette’s 16 points led all scorers, while Chalke (North Vancouver B.C.) added 11, as she went 4-for-5 from the field. The Gaiters struggled from the three-point line, hitting only four of 22 shots, while Waterloo went four of 11 from beyond the arc. Overall, the Warriors outshot Bishop’s 43% to 39%, and outrebounded the Gaiters 30-29. However, the Warriors were felled by their 33 turnovers, compared to the Gaiters’ 23.
