Gaiters suffer pair of losses on Sunday afternoon

LENNOXVILLE - The Bishop's Gaiters suffered a pair of losses in Women's Soccer and Men's Basketball. In Women's Soccer, the Gaiters fell 10-0 at Montreal against the No. 3-ranked Carabins. Meanwhile, at the Mitchell Gym, the Gaiters dropped a 103-57 decision to the Cape Breton Capers, who are currently ranked No. 7 in the cishoops.ca Top Ten.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Gaiters closed out their Alumni Weekend with a 103-57 loss to the Cape Breton Capers. The Gaiters scored the game's first two points, but it was all Capers from that point on. Cape Breton led 27-15 after the first quarter, and 54-22 at halftime. The Capers shot 59.7% from the field, while Bishop's shot 38.6%, and the Capers outrebounded Bishop's 39-31. CBU's Tremaine Fraser led all scorers with 22 points, while Scott Jaspers-Frayer added 19 and Ryan Roper scored 15. For Bishop's, Hermon Tesfaghebriel, Onnex Blackwood and Ryan Steele each scored ten points. CBU's Phillip Nkrumah made a game-high ten rebounds.

The Gaiters are back in action this Friday evening as they visit Lyndon State (Vt.) Tipoff in Lyndonville, Vt. is set for 7 p.m.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: At the CEPSUM in Montreal, the Gaiters suffered a season-ending 10-0 loss to the No. 3-ranked Montreal Carabins. Eva Thouvenot, Nadège Akamse and Marylise Monchalin each scored braces for Montreal, who led 5-0 at halftime, while Véronique Laverdière, Catherine Delmas-Frenette, Émile Mercier and Isabelle Dumais netted singles. Becky Yates made 14 saves for the Gaiters, who failed to register a shot on goal of their own. Katie Montelpare earned MVP honours for the Gaiters, while Véronique Maranda was the player of the game for Montreal. The Gaiters close the 2009 season with a 1-10-3 record.
