HEADLINES Men's Rugby falls to McGill in QURU Championship November 7, 2009 MONTREAL - The Bishop's Gaiters Men's Rugby team was defeated by McGill 55-7 in the Quebec University Rugby Union Championship today at Molson Stadium in Montreal. Nine different players scored for the Redmen, who defeated Bishop's in the QURU Final for the third straight year. The Redmen had recorded a pair of lopsided regular-season victories over Bishop's this year, and wasted no time in repeating the pattern today. McGill's Sam Skulsky scored two tries in the game's first ten minutes to stake the Redmen to a quick 10-0 lead. The Redmen put the game away ten minutes later, as Evan Straight, Maxwell Gregory and Josh Reznick scored tries as McGill led 29-0 after 22 minutes. Gaiters' Prop Nick Johnson broke the shutout in the 36th minute, and a Billy Murphy conversion cut the margin to 29-7. However, the Redmen added tries by Maxwell Gregory and Bruce Thomassin at the end of the first half to take a 43-7 lead into the interval. Second-half tries by Drew Jarisz and David Tontini. The Gaiters finish the season with a 6-4 overall record (3-3 QURU). SCORING: SECOND HALF |
