Gaiters' Gore and Turner among the top 15 CFL draft prospects April 7, 2010 LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Shawn Gore (Toronto, Ont.) and Steven Turner (Brampton, Ont.) of the Bishop's Gaiters football team have been listed among the top 15 draft prospects by the CFL's Amateur Scouting Bureau. The league office made the announcement this morning, its third and final list of the season. Both players are making their first appearance on the list. Gore, a 6'1 200 lb. receiver, enters the rankings at No. 10, while Turner, a 5-9 185 lb. receiver/kick returner enters the rankings at No. 14. Bishop's is one of only two schools (Concordia being the other) to have two players ranked on the draft prospect list. This is the second consecutive year that Bishop's has had two players ranked on the final CFL Amateur Scouting Bureau rankings, after Jamall Lee (No. 2) and James Yurichuk (No. 10) made last year's final list. Both Lee and Yurichuk were drafted in the first round last year by the B.C. Lions. Gore is the highest-rated receiver on the list, thanks to a strong performance at last month's CFL Evaluation Camp. Gore's 40-yard time was tied for fourth overall, and his 10-yard time of 1.44 seconds was second. The fourth-year receiver from Toronto also tied for third in the broad jump with 10' 3" and was fourth in the vertical jump at 39.5" Gore, who was named the 2009-10 Bishop's University Male Athlete of the Year last week, led the Gaiters in 2009-10 with 32 catches for 496 yards and five touchdowns, and was third on the team with 7.0 special teams tackles (five solo, four assisted). On October 31, 2009, he became the first Gaiter since 2003 to record two touchdown catches in a single game in the Gaiters' 40-38 win over Concordia. Turner, who is the second-highest receiver listed, moved into the rankings after a record-setting performance at the Evaluation Camp. He set a new E-Camp record with a time of 4.31 seconds in the 40-yard dash, and was a half-inch short of the Camp record with a 43.5" vertical jump. Turner led the CIS in punt returns last season with an average of 20.4 yards per return, including two touchdowns. The three-time QUFL All-Star also led the league with an average of 21.4 yards on kickoff returns. Turner has scored six kick return touchdowns (three on kickoffs, three on punts) in his career, and he has amassed 2,379 career all-purpose yards. He averages 27.9 yards per kickoff return and 11.6 yards per punt return in his career. The 2009 CFL Draft is set for Sunday, May 2, at noon. The first two rounds of the draft will be aired on TSN, with the following four rounds being updated in real time on www.cfl.ca. -30- Top Fifteen List of CIS Players [last ranking]
