WOMEN'S NOTES:

THE RECORDS: The Gaiters are 10-11 overall, and tied for fourth in the QUBL at 4-8, two wins behind third-place McGill, but the Gaiters two games in hand. The Gaiters have lost their last four games. McGill is 11-12 overall (6-8 QUBL), and winners of two of their last three games. Concordia is 9-17 overall (4-9 QUBL), and has lost two straight and five of their past six.

LAST TIME OUT: The Gaiters dropped a pair of games to the league’s top two teams, 75-62 at UQAM last Friday and 79-61 to Laval on Saturday. On Friday, the Citadins used a balanced attack, with four players scoring in double figures, to pick up the win. Annick Stephanny Charles led the Gaiters with 14 points, while Bethan Chalke finished with 11 and Robyn Wilson scored nine points and made ten rebounds. On Saturday, Elyse Jobin scored 22 points to lead Laval to the 79-61 win. Katy Germain led Bishop’s with 18 points, while Marie-Ève Lemoine and Annick Stephanny Charles scored ten each.

TIE ME UP, TIE ME DOWN: While Laval has clinched the top spot in the league, the next four places are all up for grabs, with six points separating second and fifth place. The Gaiters hold the tie-breaker over Concordia, but would lose a two-way tie with UQAM. Bishop’s needs to win by 14 points on Friday to hold the tiebreaker edge over McGill.

SCOUTING THE STINGERS: Concordia has the league’s third-rated offence, at 67.5 points per game, but the fifth-ranked defence (71.3 ppg). Concordia has three players averaging in double figures, with Kristin Portwine sitting third in the QUBL with 13.6 points per game, while  Jill Verhesen has 12.9 points per game and Anne-Marie Prophete has 12.5. Verhesen (0.546) and Portwine (0.518) also lead the league in field-goal percentage.

SCOUTING THE MARTLETS: McGill has the lowest-ranked offence in the league (37th in CIS) at 58.7 points per game, but the top ranked defence (61.1 ppg). The Martlets are led by second-year guard Anneth Him-Lazarenko, who averages 13.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, both second in the QUBL. Marie-Eve Martin (11.9 ppg) is the only other Martlet averaging in double figures.

KAT’S CLIMBING: Katy Germain is now fourth in the QUBL (39th in the CIS) with 13.0 points per game. She is also second in the league with 2.3 three-pointers made per game.

GIMME THAT!: Second-year guard Annick Stephanny Charles leads the QUBL with 2.5 steals per game. Her average is tied for 13th overall in the CIS.
