MEN’S BASKETBALL (9-19, 8-17 CIS, 5-9 QUBL - T-4th)
Gaiters drop a pair of heartbreakers to UQAM

FRIDAY: UQAM 81, GAITERS 80 (OT)  - Box Score - Full Release
Souleymane Diagne hit a 12-foot jump shot as the buzzer sounded to propel the UQAM Citadins past the Gaiters 81-80 in overtime. Diagne dribbled the length of the floor before launching a shot that shot banked off the glass as the buzzer sounded and fell into the net, sending the 941 fans at Lennoxville’s Mitchell Gymnasium home in stunned silence.

The Gaiters had come back from six points down in the last three minutes to force the overtime session, with a Hermon Tesfaghebriel tying the game at 74-74. The Citadins had a chance to win on the last possession of regulation, but Arthaud Plesius was unable to connect on his jump shot. Tim Hunter picked up the rebound, and he was fouled immediately. However, after a discussion, the officials determined that the foul came after the buzzer, setting up the additional five minutes.

In the extra session, the Gaiters led throughout, but were unable to make it a two-possession game. With the Gaiters up 80-79 with 14 seconds to go, Arthaud Plesius missed a layup that would have put the Citadins on top. Cam Mowat grabbed the rebound and pushed it up to Nicolas, who was fouled deliberately. Nicolas could not convert either of his two free throws. UQAM’s Abdoukarim Gueye grabbed the rebound and flipped it to Diagne, setting up his game-ending heroics.

SATURDAY: UQAM 78, GAITERS 77 - Box Score - Full Release
Souleymane Diagne's off-balance three-pointer with 2.1 seconds remaining gave the UQAM Citadins a 78-77 victory over the Gaiters. Diagne's trey marked the 17th and final lead change of the evening, and came after Damon Thomas-Anderson (Verdun, Que.) made one of two free throws with 20.3 seconds left, giving the Gaiters a two-point lead.

Hermon Tesfaghebriel led all scorers with a career-high 27 points on 12-for-16 shooting, while Nicolas scored 18. Cam Mowat (Kelowna, B.C.) led the Gaiters with seven rebounds, and added seven points. El Makssoud and Gregory St-Amand scored 20 points each to lead UQAM, while Diagne finished with 14. The Gaiters shot 48.4% from the field (31-for-64), while UQAM hit 50.9% (29-for-57) of their shots. Bishop's outrebounded UQAM 31-29.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (11-11, 11-9 CIS, 8-6 QUBL - 2nd)
Gaiters split with Citadins

FRIDAY: GAITERS 57, UQAM 50 - Box Score - Full Release
A pair of Mélanie Ouellet-Godcharles (Gatineau, Que.) three-pointers proved to be decisive, as the Gaiters finally came out on top to edge the Citadins 57-50. Ouellet-Godcharles put the Gaiters up 47-45 with four minutes to go. After UQAM had tied the game back up at 47, she hit again from long range, putting the Gaiters up for good at 50-47.

The game featured 10 ties and 11 lead changes, as the teams fought back and forth through all 40 minutes. In the fourth, the Citadins went on a 6-0 run to take the lead at 45-44 with just under five minutes left to play. However, Ouellet-Godcharles quashed the Citadins’ aspirations with a three-pointer from the corner. A minute later, after UQAM forced the game’s tenth and final tie at 47-47, the third-year guard drained her second straight trey to put the Gaiters up for good. The Gaiters hit five of eight free throws in the last minute to erase all doubt.

SATURDAY: UQAM 57, GAITERS 50  - Box Score - Full Release
The Bishop's Gaiters were unable to complete the weekend sweep as they fell 57-50 to the UQAM Citadins. Bishop's was unable to recover from a nine-point second quarter, as the Citadins cruised to the victory.
