MEN’S BASKETBALL (6-9, 5-7 CIS, 3-1 QUBL - 1st)
Gaiters sweep UQAM to sit in first place.

Men's Basketball swept their two games last weekend against the UQAM Citadins. On Friday, the Gaiters came from nine points down in the last 2:30 to force overtime, before edging the Citadins 79-77. On Saturday, the Gaiters cruised to an 82-67 win in Montreal.

FRIDAY: GAITERS 79, CITADINS 77 (OT) - Box Score
For the second straight game, Men's Basketball mounted a furious comeback in the last three minutes to win a game. Tonight, a layup by Damon Thomas-Anderson with two seconds left capped a Gaiters' comeback from nine points to force overtime, as the Gaiters slipped past the UQAM Citadins 79-77 in a wild contest. Anderson's shot capped a 12-3 Gaiter run in the final 2:30 of the game, and was two of the six points he scored as the Gaiters steadily chipped away at the Citadins' 63-52 lead. Needing to extend the game, the Gaiters fouled the Citadins at every opportunity. The gambit paid off, as the Citadins went 3-for-8 from the free-throw line down the stretch, allowing Bishop's to trade two points for one on each possession.

Nicolas' 16 points and six rebounds led the Gaiters, while Thomas-Anderson finished with 14 points, six boards and four steals. John Abbott grads Tim Hunter (Baie d'Urfé, Que.) and Kevin Selman (Pierrefonds, Que.) each scored 11 points for the Gaiters. The Citadins were led by Soleymane Diagne's 21 points, while Abdoukarimi Gueye notched 14 points and Arthaud Plesius scored ten. (Full release...)

SATURDAY: GAITERS 76, UQAM 62 - Box Score
Men's Basketball picked up their third straight victory, but this one came much easier than the last two thrillers. The Gaiters took a 28-26 lead in second quarter and never looked back, as they cruised to the 14-point victory. The Gaiters started slowly, trailing by six after the first quarter. However, the Gaiters started the second quarter on a 10-0 run to take the lead and pulled away in the second to taking a 38-30 lead into the interval. The Purple and White led by as many as 21 points early in the fourth quarter. The Citadins chipped at the Gaiters' lead throughout the fourth, but did not pull back to any closer than 12 points behind.

Hermon Tesfaghebriel led the Gaiters with 20 points and six rebounds, while Junior Nicolas scored 15. The Gaiters shot 49.1% from the field, and held the Citadins to 39.3% shooting. (Full release)

UP NEXT: The Gaiters close out the fall with a series against the No. 6-ranked Concordia Stingers (7-7 overall, 6-2 vs. CIS, 2-2 QUBL). Friday's game is set for the Concordia Gym in Montreal, with the return match coming Saturday in Lennoxville. Both games tip off at 6 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (4-6, 4-4 CIS, 1-1 QUBL T-1st)
Gaiters split with UQAM, sit in logjam for first place

Women's Basketball split their second consecutive weekend of QUBL play, dumping the then-No. 9 UQAM Citadins 55-36 on Friday night in Lennoxville, before falling 82-67 on Saturday evening in Montreal.

FRIDAY: GAITERS 55, #9 UQAM 36  - Box Score
Women's Basketball picked up their second straight win, thanks to a 55-36 victory over the ninth-ranked Citadins. The Gaiters held UQAM to 20.6% shooting, as they completely shut down the Citadins' offence. Bishop's charged out to an early lead, opening the game on a 13-2 run, and led 26-8 after the first quarter. The Citadins got no closer than seven points back in the second half, as the Gaiters used a 9-0 run late in the third to ice the game, while holding the Citadins to 6-for-34 shooting in the second half.

Robyn Wilson led the Gaiters with a career-high 12 points as she went 5-for-8  from the field, while Jessy Roy picked up nine points and six assists. Veteran centre Amanda Piribauer led the Gaiters' defence with ten rebounds, all defensive, and two of the Gaiters' six blocks. (Full release...)

SATURDAY: No. 9 UQAM 82, GAITERS 67  - Box Score
Despite 25 points, including seven three-pointers, from Katy Germain, Women's Basketball saw their two-game winning streak come crashing to a halt as they fell 82-67 to the No. 9-ranked Citadins in Montreal. Germain scored 19 points in the first half to give the Gaiters a 46-42 halftime lead. The second half saw the Gaiters' fortunes turn 180 degrees, as the Citadins broke open a 54-54 game with a 13-0 run to end the third, and iced the game on a 12-2 run in the fourth.

Germain's 25 points led the Gaiters, with Laure Pitfield (Ottawa, Ont.) scored 14 and added nine rebounds, and Mélanie Ouellet-Godcharles (Gatineau, Que.) scored ten points as she went 8-of-9 from the free-throw line. Robyn Wilson's ten rebounds led the Gaiters on the boards. (Full release...)
