This week’s
Bishop's Gaiters Athletes of the Week are James Yurichuk of the
Football team and Amanda Piribauer of the Women's Basketball team.
Yurichuk (Brampton, Ont.) made
11 tackles in the Gaiters' game on Saturday against Laval. He
made 9 solo tackles, including one tackle for loss, and is now
second in the QUFL with 46.5 tackles this season. Yurichuk was
named the QUFL's Defensive Player of the Week.
Piribauer (Kingston, Ont.)
scored recorded a double-double (10 points, 15 rebounds) in
Saturday's loss to the Alberta Pandas, and followed that up on
Sunday with a 20-point performance against the Regina Cougars.
Her 12 points per game average led the Gaiters over the weekend.

Godding - WR - Football - Caught a career-high 9 passes for
122 yards on Saturday afternoon.

season on Friday at UQAM and was the Gaiters' player of the

LENNOXVILLE – Quarterback Benoit
Groulx threw for 327 yards and two touchdown passes as the No. 1-ranked
Laval Rouge et Or cruised to a 41-10 victory over the Bishop's Gaiters
at Coulter Field. The Rouge et Or led 24-10 at halftime, and pulled away
with 17 unanswered points in the second half.
For the Gaiters, running back Jamall Lee carried 18
times for 70 yards. He got his 4,000th career rushing yard on a one-yard
rush late in the third quarter. He finished the day with 4,011 career
yards, moving him into seventh on the CIS all-time rushing list. Lee
also made three catches for 34 yards. (Full

BASKETBALL
(1-3)
Gaiters go 1-2 in
opening weekend of action
Men's
Basketball went 1-2 in their three non-conference games last
weekend, with a 79-70 win over Montmorency sandwiched by losses
at Queen's (82-78) on Thursday and to the NEDA (81-63) on
Saturday.
THURSDAY:
Bishop's 78 @ Queen's 82
Thursday saw the Gaiters drop a
heart-breaking 82-78 decision to the Queen's Golden Gaels in
Kingston. With the game tied 78-78, a late foul call gave the
Golden Gaels two free throws, and the win. Cam Mowat led the
Gaiters with 18 points, while rookie Ryan Steele had 13 and
Hermon Tesfaghebriel and Damon Thomas-Anderson had 12 each.
FRIDAY:
Bishop's 79 @ Montmorency 70
On Friday,
the Gaiters recorded a 79-70
victory over the Collège Montmorency Nomades in Laval. The Gaiters led 45-34 at
halftime, and by as many as 22 points before the Nomades came back to
within five in the fourth quarter. Hermon Tesfagehbriel led the Gaiters
with 26 points, while Junior Nicolas netted 16 and Damon Thomas-Anderson
and Ryan Steele netted 12 each.
SATURDAY:
NEDA 81 @ Bishop's 63
Men's Basketball lost 81-63 to the NEDA squad at the Mitchell Gym. The NEDA never trailed, and led 39-24 at halftime. Roger Dugas,
a Georgeville, Quebec native, led all scorers with 19 points.
For Bishop's, Junior Nicolas led with 14 points and six rebounds, while
Hermon Tesfagehebriel picked up 13 points, including going 7-for-9 from
the free throw line. The Gaiters committed 36 turnovers in the game, to
the NEDA's 21.
UP NEXT: The Gaiters travel to
Ottawa for the House-Laughton Invitational this weekend. They
will face the hosts Carleton on Friday, followed by Victoria on
Saturday and Laval on Sunday. |

WOMEN’S
BASKETBALL (0-3)
Gaiters winless against
Canada West foes
Women's Basketball went 0-3 at
the Alberta Pandas Hoopfest in Edmonton, falling to Trinity
Western, Alberta and Regina.
FRIDAY:
Bishop's 62 vs. Trinity Western 66
On Friday, the Gaiters
dropped a 66-62 decision to the Trinity Western University
Spartans. The Gaiters led
34-32 at halftime, and went into the final frame tied at 48. Mélanie
Ouellet-Godcharles led the Gaiters with 15 points, while Robyn Wilson
grabbed ten rebounds. The Gaiters shot 30.6% from the field, while the
Spartans were good on 41.7% of their shots.
SATURDAY: Bishop's 52 at Alberta 79
The Gaiters were downed 79-52
by the host Alberta Pandas on Saturday. The Gaiters trailed 40-25 at the half,
after scoring only nine points in the second quarter. Fourth-year centre
Amanda Piribauer led the Gaiters as she picked up a double-double, with
ten points and 15 rebounds, while Katy Germain scored 12 points. Four
players hit double figures for the Pandas, led by Nicole Clarke's 16
points. The Gaiters out-rebounded Alberta 48-39, but shot only 30.5%
from the field.
SUNDAY: Bishop's 58 vs. Regina 88
A 20-point performance by Amanda Piribauer went for nought as the Gaiters
were defeated 88-58 by the Regina Cougars. Piribauer scored 20
points on 7-of-19 shooting, and hit all six of her free throws. She also
led the Gaiters, who trailed 44-31 at the half, with eight rebounds.
Katy Germain (Val d'Or, Que.) and Laure Pitfield (Ottawa, Ont.) scored
seven points each for Bishop's.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Gaiters drop two over
weekend, fall out of playoff picture
Women's Soccer dropped both
their games last week, 5-1 to the UQAM Citadins on Friday, and
2-0 to the UQTR Patriotes on Monday afternoon.
FRIDAY:
Bishop's 1 @ UQAM 5
The Gaiters suffered their sixth straight loss, 5-1 to the UQAM Citadins
at the Centre Claude-Robillard in Montreal. Melanie Poirier led the
Citadins with two goals, with Marie-Michel Girard, Melanie Labelle and
Marie-Ève Rosa adding singles. The sole Gaiters scorer was Stephanie
Burnett, who notched her fourth goal of the season. Laura Bowie was the
Gaiters' player of the game.
MONDAY:
UQTR 2 @ Bishop's 0
The Gaiters women's soccer team lost 2-0 to the UQTR Patriotes
on Monday. The game was delayed for 45 minutes as the none of
the originally-appointed referees failed to appear. UQTR got goals from Marie-Michèle Lapointe
and Jade Richter to slide past the Gaiters.Each team took 11 shots on goal, with
Becky Yates making six saves for the Gaiters. Stephanie
Burnett took five shots and was named the Gaiters' player of the game.

Gaiters visit the Sherbrooke Vert et Or (7-1-1) on Friday night,
and the Concordia Stingers (1-9-0) on Sunday afternoon. |

MEN’S RUGBY

Gaiters off last week,
Sherbrooke up next
Men's Rugby had no league action last week, but were in
Fredericton, NB for an exhibition game against the UNB Ironmen.
The Ironmen, the top university side in the Maritimes, downed
the Gaiters 17-12. Sam Campbell and Justin Kimmell scored tries
for the Gaiters, while Billy Murphy was good on one of two
converstions.

WOMEN’S RUGBY

Gaiters fall to McGill
The McGill Martlets cruised to
to a 39-5 victory over the Bishop's Gaiters on Wednesday night at Coulter Field. For Bishop's, Sue
Magwood scored in the 63rd minute, making a ten-yard run to the corner
after a Gaiter scrum. The sequence was set up after Erika Cook intercepted a McGill pass at midfield, only to be tackled three yards
out from the goal.
UP NEXT: The Gaiters will host the Carleton Ravens on Sunday
at 2 p.m. at Optimist Park. |

Gaiters return to action
this week
Men's Lacrosse
was off last week, but has a busy schedule set for this week. On
Thursday, the Gaiters travel to Montreal to face the McGill
Redmen (4-3) at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Gaiters will host the
Carleton Ravens at 6 p.m., while Sunday will see the Gaiters
play host to the Queen's Golden Gaels at 1 p.m. Both home games
will be at Coulter Field.
