This week’s Bishop's Gaiters Athlete of the Week is Football's Jamall Lee (Port Coquitlam, B.C.).

Lee led the Gaiters to their second straight victory, a 15-10 triumph over the Sherbrooke Vert & Or in Saturday's Homecoming Game. Lee carried the ball 26 times for 176 yards, moving him into the top ten in all-time CIS rushing, and scored the Gaiters' only touchdown. Lee has now score a touchdown in five straight regular-season games, dating back to last season.

  • Avalon Henry - MF - Women's Soccer - Gaiters' team MVP on Friday against Laval.
  • Kyle Jones - LB - Football - Led Gaiters defensively with a sack, forced fumble and a fumble recovery on Saturday.
  • Pat Whelan - FL - Men's Rugby - Scored try on Friday night against Sherbrooke.
  • Jackson Gair - MF - Lacrosse - Scored three goals in Gaiters' 11-9 win on Thursday.
  • Kyle Exumé - RB - Football - Recorded three special teams tackles for Bishop's on Saturday afternoon

Gaiters hold off Sherbrooke for 15-10 win

Fourth-year running back Jamall Lee scored the Bishop’s Gaiters only touchdown as they defeated the No. 8-ranked Sherbrooke Vert & Or 15-10 before 4,123 fans at Coulter Field. The Gaiters led 12-1 at halftime, but Sherbrooke closed to within two points in the fourth quarter. Sherbrooke had the ball on the Gaiters’ 10-yard-line with under a minute to go, but the Gaiters’ defence held, clinching the victory.

Lee scored on a one-yard plunge midway through the second quarter, capping a nine-play, 105-yard scoring drive. Lee finished the day with 176 yards on 26 carries. He now has 3,818 career rushing yards, putting him into eighth place on the CIS all-time rushing list.

UP NEXT: The home-and-home with Sherbrooke concludes this week, as the Gaiters go around Mont Bellevue to face the Vert & Or again. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

WOMEN’S SOCCER (1-6-0, T-6th QUSL)
Gaiters fall to Montreal and UQAM

Women's Soccer lost a pair of games last week to Montreal-based opposition. On Wednesday, the Gaiters lost 5-0 to the McGill Martlets at Molson Stadium. On Friday, Bishop's fell 2-0 to the UQAM Citadins at Coulter Field.

WEDNESDAY: Bishop's 1 @ McGill 5
The Gaiters were defeated on Wednesday by the McGill Martlets (3-2-0). McGill struck early and often, netting goals in the 2nd, 8th, 28th and 39th minute to take a 4-0 lead at halftime. Laura Menard-Lee scored the Gaiters' only goal, in the 60th minute, but McGill added a final goal to preserve the four-goal margin. Defender Laura Bowie was the MVP for the Gaiters.

FRIDAY: UQAM 2 @ Bishop's 0
Women’s Soccer dropped a 2-0 decision to the UQAM Citadins on Homecoming Friday. A scoreless first half quickly turned, as UQAM's Caroline Belli's 47th-minute goal was followed by Andreanne Pelletier's 50th-minute marker to put the Citadins up early in the second. Gaiters' goalkeeper Becky Yates made ten saves, while Vicky Duplessis made three for UQAM. Defender Avalon Henry was named the Gaiters' player of the game.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters host Concordia (0-6-0) on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff at Coulter Field is set for 1 p.m.

MEN’S RUGBY (1-2-0, 3rd QURU)
Gaiters down Sherbrooke at Homecoming

Men's Rugby picked up their first win of the season on Homecoming Friday, as they downed the Sherbrooke Vert & Or 13-8. Pat Whelan and Justin Kimmel scored tries for the Gaiters, while Billy Murphy added a penalty goal. Sherbrooke's sole scoring came on a Jean-Michel Diorio try late in the game.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters host the Concordia Stingers  (0-3-0) this Friday at 8 p.m. at Coulter Field.

WOMEN’S RUGBY (0-3-1, 6th QURU)
Gaiters shut out by Vert et Or

Women's Rugby dropped their third straight game, as they fell 14-0 to the Sherbrooke Vert et Or on Homecoming Friday. The Vert et Or held most of the possession during the first half pushed over a try late in the frame to take a 7-0 lead. The Vert & Or put the game away with another try in the late stages of the second half.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters host the Concordia Stingers  (3-1-0) this Friday at 6 p.m. at Coulter Field.

GOLF
Gaiters off last week, Provincials this weekend

There was no golf tournament last weekend. The Gaiters' season concludes this weekend with the Quebec Championship, from Oct. 3-5 at the Ile de Montréal Golf Club.

LACROSSE (2-5-0, 2-3-0 CUFLA)
Gaiters down McGill in Homecoming game.

Men's Lacrosse won their sole game last weekend, as they held on for an 11-9 win over the McGill Redmen on Thursday night.

THURSDAY: McGill 9 @ Bishop's 11
The Gaiters took a 2-0 lead in the game's first two minutes, and led 7-2 at halftime. McGill mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring three unanswered goals, to draw to within two goals, but were unable to complete the upset. Mike Dube led Bishop's with four goals, while Jackson Gair added three, and Billy Laidler picked up one goal and two assists.

UP NEXT: Lacrosse travels to Oshawa for an exhibition game against the Oshawa Blue Knights U-19s on Saturday at 7 p.m., and faces the Queen's Golden Gaels on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Kingston.
