FOOTBALL

Football’s comeback
falls short against No. 3 Saint Mary’s
Game Stats (PDF)
LENNOXVILLE - A second-half comeback attempt fell just short as
the Bishop's Gaiters dropped a 35-27 decision to the No.
3-ranked Saint Mary's Huskies today at Coulter Field in
Lennoxville, Que. A crowd of 1,973 saw the Huskies take a 27-7
halftime lead before Bishop's closed to within two points late
in the game.
Tyler Schussler
scored two first-half touchdowns for the Huskies, on a two-yard
run in the first quarter, and a one-yard run. The game turned on
the kickoff after Schussler's second touchdown, which put the
Huskies up 20-7 with 1:42 to go in the second quarter. Gaiters
returner Shantino Wilson fumbled the kickoff in the end zone,
and the Huskies' Zach Agathos jumped on the ball to put Saint
Mary's up by 20.
In the second
half, after the Gaiters conceded a safety touch, the Bishop's
defence started their comeback. At 8:05 of the third quarter,
Huskies quarterback Ted Abraham made a bad lateral pass, which
was picked up by the Gaiters' Dusty Burke, who blazed in 47
yards for the touchdown. Early in the fourth quarter, Kyle Jones
picked off a Nathan Beeler-Marsman pass, and ran it back 20
yards to cut the margin to eight points at 29-21. (Full release)
UP NEXT: The
Gaiters will visit the McGill Redmen (0-2) on Friday night.
