2008 Season Prospectus

After two weeks of training camp, the Gaiters will visit Concordia on Friday night in their 2008 season-opener. The game will be a rematch of last season's opening game, won by Concordia 20-18. Friday night's game will be televised live on RDS.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (0-0)
Gaiters get early start against NCAA foe

Gaiters Men's Basketball makes their earliest start ever to a season tonight as they face the Northeastern Huskies, an NCAA Division I team, tonight at the Mitchell Gym. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. The game marks Rod Gilpin's debut as the Gaiters' Head Coach.

WOMEN’S SOCCER (0-0)
Gaiters
down Lyndon State, open with Montreal on Sunday.

The Gaiters enjoyed a successful week of exhibition games and scrimmages, in preparation for their 2008 season. On Friday, Bishop's defeated Lyndon State College (Vt.), an NCAA school, by a score of 4-2. Scoring for the Gaiters were Casey Walsh, Ashley Grant, Laura Menard-Lee and Laura Keeler. Defensively, Laura Bowie and rookie goalkeeper Becky Yates led the Gaiters. Yates played the first half and kept a clean sheet in her 45 minutes.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters will host the Montreal Carabins on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Coulter Field. This will be women's soccer's first game in their new home.

MEN’S RUGBY (0-0)
Gaiters down Norwich in preseason tune-up.

Men's Rugby won their annual preseason game against Norwich (Vt.) by a score of 29-14 on Saturday afternoon at Coulter Field. The Gaiters' strong forward play powered them to the victory over their American visitors.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters open their season on Friday night against the McGill Redmen in a rematch of last year's QSSF Championship. Kickoff at Coulter Field is set for 7 p.m.

WOMEN’S RUGBY (0-0)
Gaiters fall to Trent, finish 4th at Irish tourney

On Friday, the Gaiters hosted the Trent Excalibur at Optimist Park. A strong first half did not turn into points, as the Excalibur came away with a 29-3 win. Susan Magwood kicked a penalty for the Gaiters' only points.

Over the weekend, the Gaiters played in the Montreal Irish tournament in Ste-Julie, Que. A 25-0 loss to the Irish was offset by a 10-7 win in the afternoon game against Norwich (Vt.). Julie Snooks and Meredith Evans scored tries for the Gaiters in the winning cause. That win put the Gaiters into the Plate final, where they fell to the Acadia Axewomen on Sunday afternoon.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters open their season on Sunday, September 7 against the Sherbrooke Vert et Or. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
