LENNOXVILLE - The Bishop’s Gaiters dropped a 69-47 decision to the Northeastern Huskies in an exhibition basketball game on Wednesday night at the Mitchell Gym. The game was played in front of a raucous crowd of over 1,000 as part of Bishop’s annual Frosh Week festivities. The Huskies never trailed in the game, as they raced out to an 11-2 lead in the first quarter and cruised to the victory.

Early shooting troubles plagued the Gaiters in the contest, as they five of their first seven shots, allowing the Huskies to stake an 11-2 lead. Northeastern pulled away midway through the second quarter as a 12-1 run put them up by as many as 22 points on their way to a 41-22 halftime lead. In the first half, Bishop’s were 9-for-30 (30%) from the field, while Northeastern was 17-28 (60.7%).

In the second half, the Gaiters improved defensively, holding the Huskies to only 28 points on 11-for-26 shooting in the final 20 minutes. However, their troubles at the other end of the floor continued, as the Gaiters went 8-for-24 from the field. The Huskies’ strong inside game was too much for the Gaiters, as the Huskies scored 36 of their 69 points in the paint, as compared to 14 for Bishop’s.

Fourth-year forward Damon Thomas-Anderson (Verdun, Que.) led the Gaiters with 11 points, while second-year guard Kevin Selman (Pierrefonds, Que.) added ten and Junior Nicolas (Montreal) added seven points.

For Northeastern, junior forward Manny Adako (Decatur, Ga.) led all scorers with 19 points, with Chiasson Allen (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) adding 16 and Chris Alvarez (Miami, Fla.) picking up 12. The win is Northeastern’s sixth on their seven-game Canadian tour.

The Gaiters are next in action on Thursday, October 9, when they will visit the Queen’s Golden Gaels in Kingston. The next home game for the Gaiters is on Saturday, October 11 at 7 p.m., when Bishop's will host the National Elite Development Academy.
