Gaiters' Lee and Yurichuk among the top ten CFL draft prospects

Link to CFL Release

LENNOXVILLE, April 28, 2009 Jamall Lee (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) and James Yurichuk (Brampton, Ont.) of the Bishop's Gaiters football team have been listed among the top ten CIS-based draft prospects by the CFL's Amateur Scouting Bureau. The league office made the announcement this morning, its third and final list of the season.

Lee, a 6'1" 225 lb. running back, is ranked No. 2, maintaining the position he held in the January report, while Yurichuk, a 6'4" 233 lb. linebacker, enters the list at No. 10. Bishop's is the only school to have two players ranked in the top ten of the 15-person list.

Lee, who signed a free agent contract with the NFL's Carolina Panthers yesterday, set two records at last month's CFL Evaluation Camp when he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds, and recorded a 44-inch standing vertical jump. Lee is a two-time First Team All-Canadian, and the 2007 QUFL

Lee holds the Quebec University Football League career records for rushing yards (4,296) and rushing touchdowns (35), as well as the records for yards in a season (1,496 in 2007) and a single game (391 on Sept. 20, 2008). He won the CIS rushing title for the second straight year in 2008, earning his second straight First Team All-Canadian nod, as he ran for 1202 yards on a league-record 182 carries and scored ten touchdowns.

Lee is the highest-ranked QUFL player and the only running back to appear on the list.

Yurichuk, a Second Team All-Canadian, is the top-rated linebacker on the list. He moved into the rankings after a strong 2008 season combined with his performance at the CFL Evaluation Camp. Yurichuk led his position in five categories, including a 36" vertical jump and a 10' 0.5 broad jump.

Yurichuk finished third in the CIS with 59.5 tackles (50 solo, 19 assisted) in 2008, while also recording 5.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and a pass knockdown. He is currently second on the Gaiters' all-time tackle list with a career total of 164.0 in four years.

The 2009 CFL Draft is set for this Saturday, May 2, at 11 a.m. The first two rounds of the draft will be aired on TSN, with the following four rounds being updated in real time on www.cfl.ca.
