Gaiters' 2009 regular season football
schedule announced January 9, 2009 The
Bishop’s Gaiters 2009 football schedule was released by the QSSF office
yesterday. The Gaiters’ eight-game slate features home-and-home series
with the McGill Redmen and the Laval Rouge et Or, as well as the renewal
of the Bigg Bowl series against the St. Francis Xavier X-Men.` The
schedule opens up a week earlier than last year, with play beginning on
Labour Day weekend for the first time since 2005. The 2009 schedule will
features three Friday night games, and one Sunday afternoon date.
The
Gaiters will open up with the fourth annual Mayor’s Cup game, which will
be held at the University of Sherbrooke for the second consecutive year.
That game is set for Friday, September 4 at 7 p.m. The
Gaiters’ home opener will be on Friday, September 11 at 7 p.m., as the
Vanier Cup Champion Laval Rouge et Or will visit. This will be the first
home night game in Gaiters’ history. The
Gaiters are on the road for two consecutive weeks, at McGill on
September 18, and at Laval on September 27, before returning home on
October 3 for the annual Homecoming Game. This year’s Homecoming
opponent will be the McGill Redmen.
After taking a week off for Thanksgiving, the Gaiters will travel to
Antigonish, N.S. to face the St. Francis Xavier X-Men, on Saturday,
October 17. This will be the third playing of the Bigg Bowl, the first
since 2004, and the Gaiters will be looking for their first win in the
series. The
Gaiters close out the schedule with two home games, against the Montreal
Carabins on October 24, and the Concordia Stingers on October 31.
The
top four QUFL teams will qualify for the semifinals, which are set for
Saturday, November 7. The 30th Dunsmore Cup Game will follow
on Saturday, November 14, with the Mitchell Bowl set for November 21st
at the home of the OUA champion, and the Vanier Cup scheduled for
Saturday, November 28 at Quebec City. The
QUFL television schedule will be announced at a later date. -30-
