Gaiters fall to undefeated Laval October 11, 2008 LENNOXVILLE – Quarterback Benoit
Groulx threw for 327 yards and two touchdown passes as the No. 1-ranked
Laval Rouge et Or cruised to a 41-10 victory over the Bishop's Gaiters
at Coulter Field. The Rouge et Or led 24-10 at halftime, and pulled away
with 17 unanswered points in the second half. Groulx connected with Mathieu Picard in the first
quarter and Victory Tremblay in the fourth quarter, as he went 25-for-32
for 327 yards in just over three quarters of play. Laval also got
rushing touchdowns from Cesar-Romero Sanchez Hernandez and Guillaume
Allard-Cameus, while kicker Christian Milo connected on all four of his
kickoff attempts, and added an 84-yard kickoff single to round out the
Rouge et Or scoring. Ten different receivers caught passes for Laval,
led by Laurent Lavigne-Masse, who had five catches for 103 yards, while
Julian Feoli-Gudino was 6-for-68 and Matt Leblanc was 7-for-74. For the Gaiters, running back Jamall Lee carried 18
times for 70 yards. He got his 4,000th career rushing yard on a one-yard
rush late in the third quarter. He finished the day with 4,011 career
yards, moving him into seventh on the CIS all-time rushing list. Lee
also made three catches for 34 yards. The Gaiters' only touchdown came on an eight-yard
pass from Jesse Andrews to Steven Turner in the second quarter, while
Josh Maveety hit on his only field goal attempt of the day. Andrews
completed the day with 219 yards passing, as he went 19-for-28 with one
interception. Keith Godding caught a career-high nine passes for 121
yards, including a 44-yarder in the first quarter that set up the
Maveety field goal. Defensively, the Gaiters were led by James Yurichuk,
who made 11 tackles (9 solo, 4 assists) while defensive backs Nick
Poloniato and Harrison Maloney made seven each. Marc-Antoine
Beaudoin-Cloutier led the Rouge et Or with 6.5 tackles, including 0.5
sacks. The Rouge et Or piled up 560 yards of net offence
and 33 first downs on the afternoon, while the Gaiters recorded 286
yards on 17 first downs. The Gaiters largely escaped the referees'
attention on this day, as they took only eight penalties for 45 yards,
while Laval committed 12 fouls for 112 yards. Laval will host Sherbrooke next Sunday (Oct. 19) in
Quebec City, while the Gaiters (2-4) will host the Concordia Stingers
(4-2) next Saturday at Coulter Field. Kickoff for that game is set for 1

the all-time series 15-6, having won the past eight straight games ...
