MONTREAL – Fourth-year running back Jamall Lee (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) ran for 391 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the Bishop’s Gaiters to a 45-21 victory over the McGill Redmen in Quebec University Football League action tonight in Montreal.

Lee’s record-setting performance established him as the QUFL’s all-time leading rusher, with a career total of 3,642 yards. He broke the QUFL record of 3,435, currently held by Sherbrooke’s Joseph Mroué. He also jumped eight places on the all-time CIS rushing list, moving from 19th to 11th all-time, and is 104 yards away from 10th position, currently held by Alberta’s Dalton Smarsh.

Lee also set a QUFL record with 35 carries in the game, breaking the old record of 32 held by Michael Sammon of McGill and Jeronimo Huerta-Flores of Laval. Lee also set a new QUFL record with 405 all-purpose yards.

His four touchdowns tied his own single-game school record, and put him up to 32 touchdowns for his career, putting him in a tie for the league record (Phil Côté, Ottawa).

The Gaiters’ other two touchdowns were recorded by Steven Turner, who ran a punt back for 65 yards in the first quarter, and Keith Godding, who caught a 15-yard pass from Jesse Andrews with 20 seconds to play in the first half. Josh Maveety’s 33-yard field goal, his first of the season, rounded out the Gaiters scoring.

For Bishop’s, Andrews went 9-for-18 for 109 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Defensively, rookie cornerback Harrison Maloney led the Gaiters with 11 tackles (10 solo, 2 assists), while Frank Aiello recorded his first two career sacks.

For McGill, quarterback Matt Connell was 39-for-58 for 334 yards and three touchdowns. He now has 58 career touchdown passes, tying him with Laval’s Mathieu Bertrand for the QUFL career record. Connell’s 39 completions also set a QUFL single-game record, surpassing his previous mark of 38.

Up next for the Gaiters is their annual Homecoming Game, next Saturday (Sept. 27). The Gaiters will host the Sherbrooke Vert & Or, with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised on RDS.
