Football: Gaiters to face Ottawa in exhibition tilt August 22, 2008
Bishop's Gaiters 2008 Football Prospectus (pdf) LENNOXVILLE: The Bishop’s
Gaiters will travel to Ottawa this Sunday, August 24, to take on the
Ottawa Gee-Gees in an exhibition football matchup. Kickoff at Ottawa’s
Frank Clair Stadium is at 1 p.m. The game will cap the first week
of the Gaiters’ 2008 training camp. Over 100 student-athletes have
descended on the Lennoxville campus this week for the Gaiters’ annual
camp, including 50 returning players from last year’s squad, which
posted a 5-3 record, the Gaiters’ first winning season in over a decade. Ottawa, led by former Champlain
College quarterback Josh Sacobie, went 8-0 last season, before losing to
the University of Western Ontario in last season’s Ontario University
Athletics (OUA) semifinals. Sunday’s game will be the first
preseason tilt played by Bishop’s since 1994, when the Gaiters downed
McMaster 10-2 in Hamilton. It will also mark the first meeting in eight
years with the Gee-Gees, who were formerly members of the Ontario-Quebec
Interuniversity Football Conference (OQIFC) with the Gaiters. In 21
seasons in the OQIFC, Bishop’s held a 14-13 lead in head-to-head
matchups. After Sunday’s exhibition game,
the Gaiters will return to training camp, with practices resuming on
Tuesday. The Gaiters’ first regular-season game is set for Friday,
September 5 at 7 p.m. in Montreal against the Concordia Stingers. |
