WOMEN: GAITERS 55, #9 UQAM 36  - Box Score

Women's Basketball picked up their second straight win, thanks to a 55-36 victory over the ninth-ranked Citadins. The Gaiters held UQAM to 20.6% shooting, as they completely shut down the Citadins' offence.

The Gaiters charged out to an early lead, as they opened the game on a 13-2 run, and led 26-8 after the first quarter, thanks to a 9-for-15 performance. The second quarter saw the Bishop's shooters go cold, scoring only two points on 1-for-11 shooting, and withstanding an 9-0 Citadins run to hold a 28-19 halftime lead. The Citadins got no closer than seven points away in the second half, as the Gaiters used a 9-0 run late in the third to ice the game, while holding the Citadins to 6-for-34 shooting.

Robyn Wilson (Vancouver, B.C.) led the Gaiters with a career-high 12 points as she went 5-for-8  from the field, while Jessy Roy (Val d'Or, Que.) picked up nine points and six assists. Veteran centre Amanda Piribauer (Kingston, Ont.) led the Gaiters' defence with ten rebounds, all defensive, and two of the Gaiters' six blocks.

Irline Noël's ten points and ten rebounds led the Citadins, who fell to 11-3 overall (1-2 QUBL).

The Gaiters and Citadins close out the series tomorrow evening in Montreal. Tipoff at the UQAM Sports Centre is set for 5 p.m.

MEN: GAITERS 79, UQAM 77 (OT) - Box Score
For the second straight game, Men's Basketball mounted a furious comeback in the last three minutes to win a game. Tonight, a layup by Damon Thomas-Anderson (Verdun, Que.) with two seconds left capped a wild Gaiters' comeback from nine points to force overtime, as the Gaiters slipped past the UQAM Citadins 79-77 in a wild contest

Anderson's shot capped a 12-3 Gaiter run in the final 2:30 of the game, and was two of the six points he scored as the Gaiters steadily chipped away at the Citadins' 63-52 lead. Needing to extend the game, the Gaiters fouled the Citadins at every opportunity. The gambit paid off, as the Citadins went 3-for-8 from the free-throw line down the stretch, allowing Bishop's to trade two points for one on each possession.

In the overtime, the Gaiters' momentum continued, as Donald Lindo (Toronto, Ont.) and Junior Nicolas (Montreal, Que.) made quick three pointers, as the Gaiters ran out to a 73-66 lead - their largest of the night. However, the Citadins would creep back into the game, as their free-throw shooting, which had eluded them down the stretch, returned. UQAM made 10 of 11 free throws in the extra session, as they closed to within 73-72. Thomas-Anderson put the game away when his three-point play made the game 76-72 with 1:30 left. The Gaiters were able to make their free throws, hitting three of four down the stretch, to hold off UQAM's final comeback attempt.

Nicolas' 16 points and six rebounds led the Gaiters, while Thomas-Anderson finished with 14 points, six boards and four steals. John Abbott grads Tim Hunter (Baie d'Urfé, Que.) and Kevin Selman (Pierrefonds, Que.) each scored 11 points for the Gaiters. The Citadins were led by Soleymane Diagne's 21 points, while Abdoukarimi Gueye notched 14 points and Arthaud Plesius scored ten.

The Gaiters shot 40.9% from the field, while UQAM was 40.4%. The Citadins shot 72.2% from the free-throw line overall, but were 55.6% (10-of-18) in the second half.

The Gaiters (5-9, 2-1 QUBL) will close out the series against UQAM tomorrow night in Montreal. Tipoff at UQAM is set for 7 p.m.
