Polar Bears finish second at own tourney
Bears finish weekend with 3-1 record

The Bishop's University Polar Bears finished second in their annual tournament held last weekend at the W.B. Scott Arena in Lennoxville, facing a pair of local senior teams (CGHT and the Blue Machine) as well as Alexander Galt Regional High School and the Shawville Young Guns senior teram. The Bears went undefeated through the round-robin portion of the tournament, but dropped the final by a score of 4-1 to the Young Guns.

On Friday, the Bears got off to a good start by downing CGHT 11-0. Eight different Polar Bears scored, with pairs from Anna Bertrand, Emilee Walker and Lisa Kennedy, while Erika Cook, Kaila Ezard, Kayla Dawson and Sarah Bennett adding singles. Other results on Friday night saw the Shawville Young Guns down Stanstead 10-0, and the Alexander Galt Pipers defeating the Blue Machine 8-1.

On Saturday morning, Bishop's picked up their second win of the weekend, this one a 7-2 victory over the Blue Machine. Jen Prokosh picked up a hat trick in the win, while Anna Bertrand had a pair of goals and Monica Keller and Erika Cook rounding out the scoring. In their afternoon game, the Polar Bears downed Alexander Galt 4-2, with Emilee Walker, Anna Bertrand, Lisa Kennedy and Kaila Ezard finding the net for Bishop's.

Other round-robin results on Saturday were Shawville 11, CGHT 1; Shawville 5, Alexander Galt 3; and Blue Machine 10, CGHT 3.

In the Bronze Medal game, Alexander Galt (1-2) defeated the Blue Machine (1-2) by a 4-2 score.

The Shawville Young Guns downed the Polar Bears 4-1 in the Championship game to finish the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record. Martine Charron scored the only Bishop's goal.

Anna Bertrand finished the tournament as the Bears' leading scoring, with a total of five goals, while Maryse Richard played all four games between the pipes for the Polar Bears, posting a 3-1 record and allowing eight goals in four games.

The Polar Bears have concluded their fall schedule, and will return to action in January 2008.
