Kevin Selman

This week’s Pilsen Pub Athletes of the Week are Kevin Selman (Pierrefonds, Que.) of the Men's Basketball team and Melanie Ouellet-Godcharles (Gatineau, Que.) of the Women's Basketball team.

Selman led the Gaiters with 19 points in Sunday's 78-70 loss to McGill. Making only his third start of the season, he went 8-for-14 from the field in scoring a career-high 19 points. He also grabbed six rebounds, all defensive in the Gaiters' late loss to McGill.

Ouellet-Godcharles scored ten points in each of the Gaiters' two games last weekend. On Saturday night, her ten points led the Gaiters and included two three-pointers. On Sunday, she went 3-for-6 from the three-point line as her ten points helped the Gaiters romp over McGill. Her two steals on Sunday also led the Gaiters, as she played 26 minutes in the win.

 

HONOUR ROLL:

  • Courtney Cook - F - Women's Basketball (3rd year, Maple Ridge, B.C.) - Led Gaiters with 11 points on Sunday afternoon at McGill.

  • Christelle Côté - G - Women's Basketball (3rd year, Magog, Que.) - Grabbed 16 rebounds over two games last weekend.

  • Hermon Tesfaghebriel - F - Men's Basketball (3rd year, Coquitlam, B.C.) - Led Gaiters with 14 points on Saturday night against Laval.

  • Junior Nicolas - F - Men's Basketball (4th year, Montreal, Que.) - Hit double figures twice last weekend, with 12 points on Saturday and 15 points on Sunday.

  • Chelsea-Lyn Aboud - GK - Women's Indoor Soccer (4th year, Oakville, Ont.) - Made 13 saves and was named Player of the Game on Sunday afternoon.

Men’s Basketball lost both games this week, a 69-48 defeat at home to Laval on Saturday and a 78-70 loss at McGill on Sunday.

SUNDAY: Bishop's 70 @ McGill 78

A game-ending 11-3 run by the McGill Redmen was the difference as they downed Men's Basketball 78-70. Kevin Selman, making only his third start of the season, led the Gaiters with 19 points and six rebounds. Junior Nicolas netted 15 points and added a game-high six assists, while Cam Mowat picked up 11 points.(Full release)

SATURDAY: Laval 69 @ Bishop's 48

A strong first quarter was not enough for the Bishop’s Gaiters to upset the first-place Laval they fell 69-48 to the league leaders. Hermon Tesfaghebriel was the Gaiters’ top scorer, finishing with 14 points. Junior Nicolas finished with 12 points while second-year point-guard Andrew Wright finished with 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. (Full release)

UP NEXT: The Gaiters are on the road against 4th-place UQAM (9-9, 5-9, 4-6) on Friday night at 8 p.m., and return home for Winter Homecoming on Saturday night against McGill (13-14, 12-12, 6-7) at 8 p.m.

Women’s Basketball split their two games this week, dropping a 74-41 decision to Laval before rebounding to dump McGill 69-47 on Sunday.

SUNDAY: Bishop's 69 @ McGill 47

A balanced performance, keyed by 36 bench points allowed the Gaiters to dump McGill 69-47. Courtney Cook came off the bench to lead Bishop's with 11 points, while fellow reserve Christelle Côté grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Melanie Ouellet-Godcharles added 10 points, Felicia Craig-Thompson grabbed seven rebounds, while Amanda Piribauer also picked up seven boards, as well as three blocks. (Full release)

SATURDAY: Laval 74 @ Bishop's 41

Two weeks after being upset by the Gaiters, the Laval Rouge et Or women’s basketball team earned a measure of revenge on Saturday evening with a convincing 74-41 victory. Melanie Ouellet-Godcharles led the Gaiters with 10 points while Amanda Piribauer  finished with six points and seven rebounds. (Full release)

UP NEXT: The Gaiters travel to UQAM (14-7, 14-7, 8-2) on Friday night and return home to host McGill (9-16, 9-16, 2-11) in Saturday's Winter Homecoming game. Both games tip off at 6 p.m.

WOMEN’S INDOOR SOCCER

Gaiters fall to undefeated Montréal

Indoor Soccer's season continued on Sunday with a 7-0 loss to the Montréal Carabins at the Centre Multi-sport Roland-Dussault in Sherbrooke.

The powerful Carabins, who have yet to concede a goal this season, controlled the majority of the play, and Melynda Couture put them on top in the tenth minute. A two-minute double-salvo from Catherine Parizeau-Lamoureux (28') and Genevieve Lucas (29') put the game beyond reach for Montreal.

Gaiters' goalkeeper Chelsea-Lyn Aboud was named the player of the game for her 17-save performance in the game.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters return to the Centre Multisport on Sunday to face the Laval Rouge et Or (3-0-0). Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.

Polar Bears in action this week

The Bishop’s Polar Bears were idle last week.

UP NEXT: The Polar Bears return to the ice this Friday at 7:45 p.m. at the W.B. Scott Arena, as they face the Sherbrooke Sherbies, a local senior team.
