HEADLINES Basketball swept at McGill, returns home this week
Weekly Release #13 LENNOXVILLE: Basketball returns home this week for the first time in nearly two months, and will be looking to get back on the winning track. The Gaiters were swept last Sunday by McGill in a pair of low-scoring games. The women fell 48-35, while the men came out on the wrong end of a 55-52 score. The only other action last week saw Women's Hockey win their two games in Morrisville, Vermont. Gaiters Basketball hosts the UQAM Citadins on Friday night at the Mitchell Gym. Tip-off times are at 6 and 8 p.m. On Saturday, the Gaiters head up to Quebec City to face the Laval Rouge et Or., also at 6 & 8 p.m. Gaiters' Indoor Soccer kicks off for the first time this Sunday at 3, as the Gaiters host the UQTR Patriotes. In other action, women's hockey is travelling New England, competing in the New England Women's College Hockey League invitational tournament, playing club teams from American schools.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: This week’s Pilsen Pub Athletes of the Week are Jen Prokosh (Brossard, Que.) of the Women’s Hockey team and Andrew Wright (Fredericton, N.B.) of the Men’s Basketball team. Prokosh scored four goals in two games for Women's Hockey last Saturday, including two goals in the last three minutes of their final game. Her pair of goals gave the Polar Bears a 3-1 victory.
Tesfaghebriel led the Gaiters with 17 points in their 72-70 loss to then-No. 3 Concordia on Friday evening in Montreal. He went 6-for-9 from the field and hit five of his seven free throws. He also picked up six rebounds, tied for the team lead, and two steals in Friday’s game.

MEN’S BASKETBALL (6-9, 6-8 CIS, 2-4 QUBL, 4th QUBL) Gaiters edged by McGill Team Statistics Men’s Basketball saw their QUBL record drop to 2-3, as the Concordia Stingers downed them 72-70 on Friday night.

55, BISHOP's 52 The Gaiters had come back from an 18-12 first-quarter deficit and went into halftime tied at 27. In the third quarter, Bishop's quickly built up a lead, as a pair of Andrew Wright three-pointers helped the Gaiters build a 37-30 lead early in the third. Hermon Tesfagehbriel put the Gaiters up 52-42, with seven minutes to play, but the Gaiters were unable to hit the basket from that point on. McGill went 8-of-14 from the free-throw line down the stretch to complete their comeback.

WOMEN:
McGILL 48, BISHOP'S 35 The Gaiters shot 11.1% (3-for-27) in the first half, compared to McGill's 37.9%, and were 0-for-11 in the second quarter, as the Martlets took a 29-9 lead into halftime. The Gaiters came back in the second half, and were able to get to within seven points with six minutes to play, but a 9-0 McGill run quashed the Gaiters' comeback hopes. For the game, the Gaiters shot a season-low 21.5% from the field. (Full release)
WOMEN’S HOCKEY The Bishop’s Polar Bears will visit New England for three games against small-college club teams. On Friday, the Gaiters will visit Bates College, before moving on to Smith College on Saturday, and winding the weekend up with a game against Maryland at Lewiston, Maine on Sunday.
