LENNOXVILLE – Jamall Lee (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) has been named the 2008 Quebec male nominee for the BLG Awards, awarded annually to the male and female athletes of the year in Canadian Interuniversity Sport. Doug Mitchell, the former CFL Commissioner and current National Co-Chairman of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP made the announcement yesterday at a press conference in Calgary.

Lee, 21, is a third-year running back with the football Gaiters. On Sunday, he was named Bishop's Male Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year. Lee won the Jeff Russel Trophy as the QUFL’s most valuable player, was a unanimous league All-Star and a First-Team All-Canadian. He ran for 1464 yards, the fifth-highest total in CIS history, smashing the former provincial record of 1050 yards, held by ex-Gaiter Larry Smith. He also set league records with 181 carries and 1533 all-purpose yards, and he led the league with 12 touchdowns. After only three seasons, Lee is already the Gaiters’ all-time leading rusher and all-time leader in touchdowns.

Lee becomes only the third Gaiter to be nominated for the Award since its inception in 1992, following David Stipe in 2002 and Trevor Lovig in 1996. The other nominees for the award are Ben Schellenberg (Volleyball, University of Winnipeg),  Aaron Doornekamp (Basketball, Carleton University) and Rob Hennigar (Hockey, University of New Brunswick).

The BLG Award winners will be announced at a ceremony in Calgary on Monday, April 28. The ceremony will air on TSN on Sunday, May 18 at 11 a.m. More information on the awards is available at http://www.blgcanada.ca/blgawards

LENNOXVILLE – Jamall Lee (Port Coquitlam, C-B) a été nommé le finaliste du Québec de 2008 aux prix BLG, visant à reconnaître les athlètes de l’année féminin et masculin de Sport interuniversitaire canadien pour la saison 2007-2008. Doug Mitchell, ancien commissaire de la LCF et co-président national de Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) a fait cet annonce hier à Calgary.

Lee est un porteur de ballon de troisième année avec l’équipe de football de l’université Bishop’s. Le dimanche passé, il a été nommé l’athlète masculin de l’année à Bishops pour la deuxième année consécutif. Lee a mené les Gaiters à leur meilleur saison depuis 1998, en écrasant les records de Bishop’s et aussi de la LFUQ. Il a été nommé le joueur de l’année de la LFUQ, une sélection unanime a l’équipe d’étoiles de Québec, et un membre de la première équipe d’étoiles Canadienne. Cette année, Lee a amassé 1464 verges au sol, et a brisé l’ancien record de 1050 verges (Larry Smith, Bishop's, 1969). Aussi, il a brisé les records du Québec avec 181 tentatives au sol et 1533 verges combinées. Il a mené la ligue avec 12 touchés cette saison. Après juste trois saisons, Lee est déjà le meneur de tout le temps de Gaiters avec 3094 verges au sol et 25 touchés.

Lee est la troisième Gaiter de devenir un finaliste au prix depuis leur création en 1993, après David Stipe (2002) et Trevor Lovig (1996). Les autres finalistes au prix masculin sont Ben Schellenberg (Volleyball, Université de Winnipeg), Aaron Doornekamp (Basketball, Université Carleton) et Rob Hennigar (Hockey, Université de Nouveau-Brunswick).
