Gaiters’ McCullough to make CFL debut tonight.

June 26, 2008

Dan McCullough, a captain of the 2007 Bishop’s Gaiters football team, is set to make his CFL debut tonight, as the B.C. Lions take on the Calgary Stampeders.

McCullough, who starred for five seasons on the Gaiters’ defensive line, will be the Lions’ long snapper, after he beat out fourth-year veteran Tyson Craiggs for the position. McCullough signed with the Lions as a free agent in 2007, and was on their practice roster until he returned to Bishop’s last August.

McCullough is a three-time QUFL All-Star, and is second on the Gaiters’ all-time career tackles list with 149, trailing only Francis Bellefroid.

McCullough is the second Gaiter currently active in the CFL, as he joins eight-year veteran Matt Robichaud. Robichaud is the long snapper for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

McCullough was one of two Gaiters to participate in CFL training camps this season. Keith Godding, the Gaiters’ leading receiver last season, was signed by Montreal as a free agent and was named to their practice roster earlier this week.

McCullough’s debut will be carried on TSN, starting at 10 p.m. Eastern.
