2008 LENNOXVILLE – The Bishop’s Gaiters were swept by the Concordia Stingers

Second year guard Krystle Douglas scored 24 points and forward Kristin
Portwine scored eight points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the visiting

evening.
While sluggish first half performances have doomed the Gaiters on
several occasions this season; Bishop’s got off to a good start against
the Stingers, taking a 14-12 lead after the first quarter. Concordia,
however, would respond in the second quarter, outscoring the Gaiters
20-13 to take a 32-27 half time lead.
After trailing by as many as 13 points early in the third quarter, the
Gaiters responded with an impressive 24-9 run to make the score 53-51
after three quarters. But after trading baskets for much of the fourth
quarter, the Stingers managed to pull away in the final minutes, going
on a 6-0 run as the Gaiters missed their final five field goal attempts.
Forward Courtney Cook (Maple Ridge, B.C.) led the Gaiters with 17 points
and six rebounds while guard Jesse Roy (Val d’Or, Que.) chipped in with
11 points, five assists and five rebounds. With
the win, Concordia (6-16, 3-5 QUBL) moves into a tie with Bishop's
(7-13, 3-6 QUBL) for third place in the QUBL. Concordia currently holds
the tiebreaker advantage over the Gaiters as they have won two of the
three head-to-head meetings this year. The two teams will play again on
Friday, February 22 in the Gaiters' final regular season game.
Bishop’s next game is Wednesday (January 30), when they travel to
Montreal to face the McGill Martlets. Concordia’s next game is tomorrow
against the UQAM Citadins. ---
