CHELSEA-LYN ABOUD NAMED QUSL MOST SPORTSMANLIKE PLAYER
November 1, 2007 Lennoxville
– Bishop's Gaiters goalkeeper Chelsea-Lyn Aboud (Oakville, Ont.) has
been named as the Quebec University Soccer League's Most Sportsmanlike
Player. The announcement was made by the QSSF office this week. Aboud, a fourth-year Social Sciences student, played
in all 14 of the Gaiters' games this season, and was named Game MVP on
three occasions. Her on-field performances were highlighted by a 12-save
shutout of the then #5-ranked McGill Martlets on September 16, and a
seven-save victory over the UQTR Patriotes on September 7th. Off the field, she has been the Gaiters' team captain
for the past three seasons, and is also a member of Bishop's Student
Athletic Committee. Gaiters' head coach Darren Matthews commented, "She is
the consummate leader on and off the field and her presence next season
will be sorely missed." That sentiment was echoed by her teammates. Third-year
midfielder Lauren Proudfoot stated "She has been captain since I've been
here, and she is an amazing leader. She always keeps the team pumped up,
and because of her, the team has stayed together." Cheilidh MacNeil,
also a third-year midfielder added, "She is always the most positive
person on the field." -30- |
