Gagnon, Campbell and Orlando selected on Provincial All-Star Team

Nov. 7, 2006 – A week after their season ended with a loss to Concordia in the conference semi-finals, Matt Gagnon, Sam Campbell and Mike Orlando of the Bishop's Gaiters men’s rugby team have been named to the Quebec conference All-Star team.

Gagnon's selection marked the second straight season that the veteran has been named a conference All Star. The fifth-year administration major from Ottawa, Ont., had a great season for the Gaiters, highlighted by his record-setting performance against ETS last month, where he scored an FQSE-record 11 tries in the Gaiters 87-0 win over the Piranhas.

Campbell, a third-year student athlete from Toronto, Ont., who is majoring in the social sciences, also had an outstanding season for the Gaiters, most notably in Bishop's 31-10 win over Sherbrooke.

Orlando, a third-year administration student from Campbell River, B.C., was dominant for the Gaiters all season long at the centre position, especially against Sherbrooke, where he scored two tries.

Gagnon, Campbell et Orlando élus sur l’équipe d’étoiles provinciales de rugby

7 novembre 2006 – Malgré leur élimination en demi-finale provinciale, Sam Campbell, Matt Gagnon et Mike Orlando de la formation masculine de rugby des Gaiters de l’Université Bishop’s ont été sélectionnés sur l’équipe d’étoiles de la conférence québécoise. Pour Gagnon, il s’agit d’une seconde sélection en autant de saison.

Étudiant-athlète de cinquième année inscrit en administration des affaires et originaire d’Ottawa, Ont., Gagnon a inscrit son nom dans le livre des records de la Fédération québécoise du sport étudiant (FQSE) cet automne lorsqu’il a réussi un total de 11 transformations dans une victoire des siens 87-0 sur l’ETS.

Campbell, un étudiant-athlète de troisième année inscrit en sciences humaines et originaire de Toronto, Ont., a connu une bonne saison en général et fut un élément important lors de la victoire aux mains du Vert & Or de l’Université de Sherbrooke. Il avait alors été choisi Athlète de la semaine à l’Université Bishop’s pour sa prestation.

Quant à Orlando, un étudiant-athlète de troisième année inscrit en administration des affaires et originaire de Campbell River, C-B., il a connu une excellente saison à la position de centre notamment face à Sherbrooke alors qu’il marqua deux essais.
