A Tough Weekend for Bishop's ski team

Feb. 13, 2006 – The Bishop's Gaiters ski team struggled in the two slalom competitions held at Mount Sutton over the weekend. This weekends competition marked the third event of the Quebec circuit's season, with almost 120 skiiers from 7 universities competing.

On Saturday, Vancouver's Jennifer Bertram, Nova Scotia's Katie Bruce and rookie Jessica Honeywell (Ottawa, On) finished in 12th, 13th and 14th place. Stefanie Grimard of Montreal recorded the top finish with a time of 2:05.59 seconds, nine seconds better than Bertram.

Nicolas Zyromski of McGill was the top finisher for the men with a time if 1:56.25. Jeffrey Strevens of Toronto was the top Gaiter, finishing in 19th place with a time of 2:08.64. Rookies Ian Snowsell (Banff, Alb) and Graham Carr (Calgary, Alb) finished in 23rd and 25th place respectively.

On Sunday, Lauren Bobby (Timmins, On) finished in 7th place with a time of 2:03.76 while teammates Katie Bruce and Jennifer Bertram finished in 10th and 12th. Saturday's runner-up, Sandrine Jean of Montreal captured the gold on Sunday with a time of 1:58.90.

On the men's side McGill's Nicolas Zyromski finished in first with an incredible time of 1:51.56. Graham Carr, Ian Snowsell and Jeffrey Strevens were once again the top finishers for Bishop's, finishing in 20th, 21st and 24th place respectively.

Lauren Bobby remains the top ranked individual skiier for Bishop's with 657.5 points, which places her in 7th in the circuit. Megan Kidston of McGill remains the top ranked individual with 877.5 points.

Kidston's teammate Nicolas Zyromski moved into a tie for first place (750 points) with Jocelyn Boily of Montreal after his outstanding weekend. Graham Carr is the top ranked Gaiter with 354 points, which places him in 12th place in the Quebec circuit.

Montreal is the top ranked team with 6297 points. Bishop's is currently ranked fourth with 4127.5 points.

McGill has the top ranked women's team with 2840.5 points, followed by Montreal (2755) and Bishop's (2166).

Montreal enjoys a comfortable lead in the men's department with 3542 points. Bishop's is currently ranked with 1961.5 points.

The Quebec ski circuit will resume February 24th and 25th when two slalom competitions will be held at the Le Relais ski resort near Quebec City.
