Mixed results for Gaiters Bishop's struggles but Bertram captures her first medal of the season

Jan. 31, 2006 – The Bishop's University ski team did not enjoy as much success this weekend at the Lanaudiere ski resort in Montcalm as they did in the first two races of the season.

On Saturday, Jennifer Bertram (Vancouver, B.C.) recorded a time of 1:17.84 which was good enough to get her the third spot on the podium behind Marie-Claude Deschambeault (1:16.05) and Megan Kidston (1:16.01) of McGill. Rookie Lauren Bobby (Timmins, On) finished one-fifth of a second behind Bertram in fourth place while Jennifer Post (Prévessin-Moens, France) finished in 7th place.

The Gaiter men, however, struggled, with only five of 11 skiers managing to fininsh the course. Ian Snowsell of Banf, Alberta was the top ranked Gaiter, finishing in 14th place.

The Lady Gaiters conference standings suffered a serious blow on Sunday when the McGill Martlets captured 4 of the top 6 positions. The highest ranking Bishop's skiers were Lauren Bobby (8th), Katie Bruce (9th) and Jennifer Post (11th.)

The top finisher for the men was rookie Graham Carr (Calgary, Al) who finished in 22nd.

In overall team rankings, Bishop's is currently ranked third with 2960.5 points, trailing Montreal (3996) and McGill (4033.5) but leading Laval (2872).

Bishop's women are currently ranked second with 1626.5 points, six more than third-place Montreal. McGill leads the women's rankings with 2072.5 points. Bishop's men are currently ranked 4th with 1334 points while Montreal leads the circuit (2376).

Lauren Bobby is currently the third highest-ranked female with 552.5 points. Megan Kidston of McGill is the leading female point-getter with 702.5 points. Jennier Bertram is currently ranked fifth with 390 points.

Graham Carr currently occupies 9th place with 296 points and is the highest ranked male for Bishop's. Defending circuit champion Jocelyn Boily leads the circuit yet again with 575 points.

The Quebec ski circuit will resume February 11th and 12th at nearby Mount Sutton, where two slalom competitions will be held.
