HEADLINES Lennoxville, September 29, 2005 – It will be another busy weekend for the Bishop’s University athletic department as the football, men and women’s rugby, women’s soccer, golf and lacrosse teams will all be in action. Women’s RugbyThe Bishop’s Gaiters Women’s Rugby squad (1-2) will attempt to improve their record to .500 this weekend as they host the winless Concordia Stingers (0-1). The Gaiters split last weekends match-ups, defeating Sherbrooke (0-4) 37-0 on Friday before falling to the University of Ottawa (2-1) 38- 5 on Sunday. One player in particular to watch out for on the Gaiters is 21 year old Cailin McCulloch (Orleans, Ont.) who last week was named the Pilsen Pub Gaiter Athlete of the Week for her role in helping lead Bishop’s to victory over Sherbrooke. The Concordia-Bishop’s game is the only game on the Gaiter’s schedule this weekend and it is set for Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Lennoxville. Men’s RugbyFresh off a 41- 3 victory over cross- town rival Sherbrooke, the Bishop’s Gaiters will be looking to improve their record to 3-1 on the season this weekend as they host the Concordia Stingers at 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The Gaiters won the only previous meeting between the two squads earlier in the year by a score of 27- 22. Women’s Soccer After getting shut-out 3-0 by both Sherbrooke (1-3) and Laval (3-0) over the weekend, Bishop’s Women’s Soccer team (1-3) will attempt to get their season back on track when they play a pair of pivotal games against Concordia (2-2) and UQTR (0-3). Bishop’s will host the Concordia Stingers Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The match could be crucial to the Gaiters play-off hopes as Concordia currently sits in 4th place in the Quebec conference and therefore occupies the final playoff position. A win against the Stingers, who have yet to face the Gaiters this season, would drastically improve Bishop’s chances of making the post-season. Following the Concordia-Bishops game, the Gaiters will travel to Trois-Rivières on Sunday afternoon to take on winless UQTR. The game will be the first meeting of the season between the two squads. GolfBishop’s golf team will be in action this Saturday and Sunday when they travel to Montreal to take part in rounds 3 and 4 of the QSSF Championship. The Gaiters currently sit in 5th place in the conference after one weekend of play. The two rounds of golf will take place at the Challenger Golf Course in Montreal. Lacrosse After playing Carleton during Homecoming weekend, Bishop’s Lacrosse team will be in action again this weekend as they will host Queen’s University and Brock University. The Gaiters will face Brock Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. in a rematch of last year’s Baggattaway Cup final, which was narrowly one by Brock. The Gaiters will be in action again the next afternoon when they play host to Queen’s at 10:00 a.m. |
