Optimistic about 2005 Rugby Season
Bishop’s
is ranked 9th place by
CanadianRugby.ca
Lennoxville,
Sept. 1, 2005
- Head Coach, Bill Robson, enters his 22nd season at the helm of the
Bishop’s Rugby squad and is optimistic about his team’s chances to
compete for the QSSF championship.
“Our pre season training camp is off to a very good start with 30
players working hard right now. By the week’s end we expect to see 40-45
players. We will be improved over last season as most of our veterans
are returning and we are bringing in some talented recruits.”
”Our main competition will still be McGill
and Concordia who will field formidable teams. We do have high
expectations; I expect good things from the boys!”
The pre season schedule includes a home exhibition game on Wednesday,
August 31 versus University of Waterloo at 6 p.m.The team will then
travel to Vermont on Saturday, September 3rd to take on Norwich
University.
2005 Canadian University Pre
Season Rankings by
CanadianRugby.ca
Aug 16, 2005 - As the 2005 University rugby season begins,
CanadianRugby.ca has ranked the thirty-nine university rugby squads in
the country. From Victoria to St. John's, the post-secondary teams will
fight to win their respective conferences, divisions and leagues.
As more and more young players in the
country turn to rugby at the university level, we strive to bring you an
updated picture of where the respective teams stand on a national basis.
The rankings are based upon four criteria: last seasons finish (both
within league and outside of league play), strength of 2004/2005
schedule, off-season personnel adjustments, and potential as seen in
2005/2006 schedule.
Pre-Season Rankings 2005
*Last week’s ranks in parentheses.
1 (1) UVIC Victoria, BC
Making their return to BCRU-Premier after last year’s disappointing
season. 2nd team (Norsemen) could be ranked in the top 5.
2 (2) UBC Vancouver, BC
Had a rough ride in BCRU-Premier, will show improvement in 05, have a
few players with national & international experience.
3 (3) Western Ontario London, Ont
Van Kamp and Jenkins should lead Western to their second OUA title in a
row.
4 (4) McMaster Hamilton, Ont
Carpenter and Pletch brothers gained NSMT experience this summer, but
will it be enough?
5 (5) Waterloo Waterloo, Ont
Last year’s surprise OUA bronze medallists, have a speedy backline and
dedicated forwards led by #8 Auzins.
6 (6) McGill Montreal, Que
The Redmen topped the QSSF league, and had 10 players on the Quebec
University All-star team.
7 (7) Acadia Wolfville, NS
An undefeated run to the Maritime title, plus the selection of front-row
Evans to CDN U-21 team has Axemen excited for 05.
8 (8) SFU Burnaby, BC
Posted a decent 4-5-1 record in the BCRU Div. 1, but no match for the
top two in BC.
9 (9) Bishop’s Lennoxville, Que
Blow-out loss to McGill in QSSF final over-shadowed the two close games
between the two in league play.
13 (13) Concordia Montreal, Que
Encouraging wins over Bishop’s in league play did not translate into a
berth in the finals, should challenge for the silver.
25 (25) Sherbrooke Sherbrooke, Que
Scored only 24 points against the big-three in QSSF, not an encouraging
sign.
27 (27) U of Quebec ETS Montreal, Ont
Completely demolished in league play, any good signs, (or signs of life)
will be an improvement. |
