Gaiters snare key recruit
Football team receives commitment from impact receiver

April 12, 2006 – A wind of optimism is sweeping through Bishop’s University as Head Coach Leroy Blugh and his football team prepares for the 2006 season.

After the timely arrival of rookie ball carrier Jamall Lee and linebackers Kyle Jones and James Yurichuk in the fall of 2005, the Gaiters are proud to introduce the newest impact member of the squad, receiver Shawn Gore of Toronto.

Coach Blugh confirmed that the six-foot, 185 pound receiver will wear the purple and silver beginning this September. Gore was listed by the Toronto Star as one of the top 35 high school football players in the country last fall and lived upto that billing, scoring 18 majors in just 11 games for Newtonbrook Secondary School.

“I have always lived in a big city and to find myself at Bishop’s is going to be an extraordinary experience,” states Gore who has been accepted into the school’s Sociology program. “When I visited the campus in February for the Silver and Purple weekend, I got a warm welcome from the school and sense of the wonderful ambiance of the University.”

Gore is looking forward to arriving in Lennoxville in superb shape for training camp this August. “I am counting on improving my speed during the summer. I expect to be able to step into the lineup in September and make an immediate contribution to the team.”

After struggling for the past couple of seasons, the Gaiters are heading in the right direction, as the team’s recruiting efforts are paying off and Gore knows that the team is serious about re-establishing itself as on of the premier gridiron squads in the country.
