Gaiters prepare to host blue chip football recruits

Feb. 15, 2006 – This weekend will be a crucial one for the Bishop's University football program as it prepares to host some the top potential recruits in Canada as part of the annual Winter Homecoming 'Super Saturday' festivities.

The visit of several blue-chip recruits to Bishop's comes as the Gaiters coaching staff finds themselves right in the middle of the recruiting season. Head Coach Leroy Blugh and assistant coaches Marc Loranger and Tony Addona will play host to several potential future Gaiters, with the highlight of the visit coming Saturday evening with the 6th annual Purple and Silver Dinner.

"This is a crucial weekend for our program," says Blugh. " Over 50 top-level recruits will be visiting our campus and familiarizing themselves with the Bishop's atmosphere. We've invited the top players at each position and our program will get a major boost if they choose to come here."

The visits, which include meetings with Bishop's faculty, are designed to give the invitees a sense of what awaits them at Bishop's should they choose to play for the Gaiters next fall. The recruits will also get a first-hand look at the kind of outstanding fan-support that Bishop's fans have become famous for when they attend the Saturday evening basketball doubleheader.

"This gives the coaching staff a chance to meet and get to know some of the people who will be playing for us next season," said defensive coordinator and head recruiter Marc Loranger," We also plan on holding some workouts with the players, but we won't be testing them yet."
