The Best team on Campus?
The Bishop’s Polar bears are flying high with a record of 14-2-2By Steve Carruthers,

Lennoxville, Feb. 16, 2005 -
There is a great argument over who is the best team on Campus is. Our Men’s Rugby and Lacrosse teams both narrowly missed being league champs. The women’s basketball team is coming into form and look very confident that they can capture a second straight provincial title but the bets team on Campus may be one that very few people know anything about.
The Bishop’s Polar Bears is the name of the women’s hockey team here at Bishop’s. Carl Hunting, whom many of you may know as your landlord, for quite some time now, has coached them. After many seasons of poor play they have developed into one of the best club teams in the area as they have posted a record of 14 wins, 2 losses and 2 ties so far this season.
On Friday, February 4th the Polar Bears took on an All-Star team from Sherbrooke at Bishops’ own WB Scott rink. Bishop's came out on top with a 7-3 score taking advantage of some spotty goal tending.
Scoring for Bishop's were Jessica Frappied with three, other tallies went to Lisa Kennedy, Sonya Roloff, Jocelyn Molyneux and Maryse Richard. Danielle Breau played the whole game in net and picked up the win. The following day these lovable bears of the North travelled to Middlebury, Vermont to play in the 6th Annual Face-Off Against Breast Cancer women’s Ice Hockey Tournament.
The first game was against Stowe Motley Crew, which is perhaps one of the best team names in history. The Bears showed no fear of the longhaired rockers and came out on top 6-0. Scoring for Bishop's were Michelle McKay with two as well as Cailin McCulloch, Kim Purcell, Jessica Frappied and Rebecca King.
The second game was a hard fought battle against the Upper Valley Mad Dogs with Bishop's coming out on top 3-1. Scoring for the Bears were Jocelyn Molyneux, Kim Purcell and Michelle McKay. As a result of this win Bishop’s found themselves in the final.
The championship game was the Hudson Valley Waves against the Bishop's Polar Bears. This was a great game with the Bears coming back from a two-goal deficit as they scored one goal in the second period and another in the third to force the game into sudden death overtime. At 3:59 of the first overtime period Jessica Fraddied took a perfect pass from Michelle McKay and scored the winning goal to give Bishop's the championship. Also scoring for the Bears were Anna Bertrand and Michelle McKay. Goalie Danielle Breau was outstanding over the weekend as she recorded all three wins for the Bears. Without her solid play the fate of the ladies may have been different. Not only was the victory quite enjoyable for the girls but also knowing that they had competed for such a worthwhile cause made it twice as satisfying.
They say that all good things must end and unfortunately this was the case for the queens of the ice as they fell to the Sherbrooke All-Stars by a score of a 6-4 score.
Scoring for the Bears was Anna Bertrand with 2 and singles by Jessica Frappied and Jillian Rayhar. Daniel Breau was in net but could not be blamed for the team’s only second loss of the season.
After a great Friday night the Polar Bears were able to kick back as they played in a pressure less game. They were hosting their alumni in a spirited game won by the current team 8-5. Goals were the order of the day as they were scored early and often by both teams.
Scoring for the old girls, and I use this term loosely, were Michelle Dunn with 3 and Alison Yelland with 2. Answering for the Bears were Michelle McKay with 3, Kim Pursell with 2 and singles going to Jessica Frappied, Lisa Kennedy and Jillian Rayhar. Al Ansel treated following the Game the Polar Bears of both past and present to a Sebey’s lunch.
For those of you who have not had a chance to watch this dynasty in the making it is to bad for this may be the best hockey anyone in the area might see this year. Go Bears!
