Jennifer Bertram saves face for Bishop’s University
The giant slalom specialist wins two bronze medals at Sutton

Lennoxville, Feb. 15, 2005 – After winning the two first giant slaloms of the season, Jennifer Bertram (Vancouver, BC) once again excelled this weekend by winning two bronze medals at Mont Sutton.

On Saturday Bertram took the third place, falling behind McGill’s Alyson Bobby and the eventual winner Anna Prchal of Concordia, a former national ski team member.

Rookie Katie Bruce ( Dartmouth, NS) took home a sixth place finish while Marnie Hurst (Ottawa, ON) finished 25th.

As for the men, the first year student Jeremy Mawson (Toronto, On) had his best finish of the season finishing in 14th place. As for Bentley Cross (Halifax, NS) he finished 26th.

On Sunday, Bertram was the only female member of the ski team to complete her run thus allowing her to achieve her second bronze medal of the weekend. Seeded 6th after her first run, Bertram had a solid second run allowing her to finish 3rd with her combined times for both runs. However, she fell behind to McGill’s duo, Alyson Bobby and the eventual winner Kaylyn Morton.

Bertram now sits 2nd in the women’s individual standings with 614 points, just 16 points behind leader, McGill’s Alyson Bobby.

On the men’s side things did not fair so well. Toronto’s Robert MacKay and Shaun Morton were the only skiers to complete the run.

MacKay who sat in 9th position after his first run, was shaken on numerous occasions on his second run, thus giving him a 12th place finish. As for Morton, who’s sister ski’s for McGill, he managed a 39th place finish out of 76 skiers.

As for the team rankings, McGill and Montreal University are practically assured of winning both the men’s and women’s titles with only 4 races remaining. As for Bishop’s University, the women’s ski team is still holding on to 3rd position while the men are in 6th only a few points behind The University of Sherbrooke and McGill.

In the combined category Montreal distanced themselves from their rivals Laval, McGill and Bishop’s. Which leads one to speculate that Montreal will win in the combined category for the sixth straight year.

On February 26th and 27th, Bishops will head to the Quebec City region to compete in 2 regular Slaloms at the beautiful ski resort of Le Relais.
