The university ski circuit makes it’s next stop in Sutton this weekend
Jennifer Bertram will lead the team as they attack giant slaloms

Lennoxville, February 10, 2005 - Jennifer Bertram (Whistler, BC) currently holds first place in the women’s alpine skiing class. She will try to capture gold in both giant slaloms which will take place this weekend at the ski resort in Sutton. This will be the third weekend of competition of the Quebec University Alpine Skiing Circuit.

On the first week of the season Bertram was victorious in both giant slaloms at Massif St. Francois ski resort.

Rookies Katie Bruce (Dartmouth, NS) and Alicia Wood (Aurora, ON) will also be strong contenders for medals this weekend. Bruce has two 4th place finishes in four races and sits 13th in the overall standings. In the last two races Woods captured both 5th and 6th place respectively and is currently ranked 17th. Veteran Melanie Lessard (Louiseville, QC) will attempt once again to place in the top 20 this weekend.

The men’s team has gotten off to a slow start but hope to improve their results this time around. Bentley Cross (Halifax, NS) will do his best improve in the overall rankings after opting out of the past two races due to a nagging hip injury. It is also of interest that the two-sport athlete currently sits in 51st place overall as well as participating in the grulling off season training with the gaiters football team.

Robert MacKay (Toronto, ON) and Jeremy Mawson (Toronto, ON) both have the potential to be in the hunt for a medal this weekend. Mackay has had a slow start but should still be able to turn it on. His best finish so far this season took place two weeks ago as he finished 21st overall. MacKay is currently ranked 40th which is well of his pace after finishing 18th overall last season.

As for Mawson, the rookie has finished in the top 25 on three occasions and currently sits 31st in the rankings.
