Bishop’s experiences highs and lows in second weekend of competition
Rookie Alicia Wood finished 5th
and 6th this past weekend Lennoxville,
Feb. 1, 2005 – After a disastrous day of competition on Saturday the Women’s ski team
rallied together to perform much better on Sunday. The men’s team, who were
missing their best skier in Bentley Cross, finished sixth in the two-day competition this past weekend.
On Saturday the only ladies to complete the course were rookie Alicia Wood (5th) and Marnie Hurst (23rd). On the Men’s side the top finisher was Rob
Mackay (21st) with Jeremy Mawson (25th) and James Waters (38th).
Sunday proved to be a much better day for the women as rookies Katie
Bruce and Alicia Wood took home 4th and 6th respectively. Jen Bertram, the star of
week one, placed 13th while Melanie Lessard finished 22nd. The men continued
to struggle on the second day of competition with the lone bright spot being
Jeremy Mawson’s 19th place finish. Patrick Corney (34th), Rob Mackay (42)
and James Waters (48th) were the only other top 50 skiers from Lennoxeville.
Despite Jen Bertram’s set back in the second weekend of competition she still remains on top in the overall standings with 464 points. Rookies Katie
Bruce (13th) and Alicia Wood (17th) are also having strong seasons so far.
On the men’s side Jeremy Mawson is the purple and whites best skier as he
currently sits in 31st place after the first two weeks of competition.
As it has been for the past few years McGill and The University of Montreal have continued to dominate the alpine circuit. Montreal is the overall
point’s leader on the men’s side with McGill the top team among the women.
Bishop’s finds itself in third place on the women’s bracket while the men
are sitting in 6th spot quite a few points behind McGill and Sherbrooke.
The University of Montreal is the overall leader with Laval, McGill and Bishop’s following respectively.
The Gaiters next hit the slopes on the 12th and 13th of February as they travel to
Sutton (Sutton, QC) which is located about 45 minutes west of Bishop's.
