Bertram is twice victorious in the opening week of the season
Second year member of the ski-team leads Bishop’s this past weekend

Lennoxville, Jan. 18, 2005 – Jennifer Bertram was the star of the Bishop’s Alpine Ski team last year as she finished third in the entire province in the overall standings. Bertram’s goal this year was to be the top skier in Quebec and after capturing first place in the opening two events she is in great form to do so.

On her first day of competition the third year Psych student posted a two race total time of 2:10:82 winning the weekend’s opening event by more then 3.5 seconds. On the second day of competition she finished with a total time of 2:09:28 giving her a second gold medal in as many days. Winning at this event was not an unusual feeling for Bertram as she won both races here last year.

It was a brisk weekend at St François ski resort in the beautiful area of Charlevoix with Bishop’s ski optimistic about the up-coming season. Aside from Bertram’s impressive performance Bishop’s had many other very competitive skiers.

On the women’s side Katie Bruce rebounded from her inability to complete Saturday’s race with a fourth place finish on Sunday. Melanie Lessard also had a strong weekend placing 21st on Saturday and 22nd on Sunday.

Although none of the men were able to able to reach the podium they had a strong team performance. On Saturday Craig Mottershead finished 18th, Bentley Cross 19th, Jeremy Mawson 24th, James Waters 33rd, Jeremy Hill 38th, Anthony Garretto 43rd, and Corry Grunnel 47th.

On Sunday Robert McKay finished 28th, Bentley Cross 30th, Mike Deslauriers 41st and Anthony Garretto 50th.

All in all this was a good opening event for the Bishop’s Alpine ski team. They had a very good showing in the women’s category and the men should only get stronger as the season goes on.

On January 29th and 30th, the Bishop’s ski team will travel to Montcalm (Rawdon, Qc) for the season’s second weekend of competition.
