Win Homecoming Game

- The Bishop’s University Gaiters football team recorded its first win of the season as they
defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 25-13 Saturday afternoon at Coulter Field before a
capacity Homecoming Crowd.
The Gaiters defensive unit forced the Mounties into
12 turnovers including eight interceptions and rookie quarterback Kyle Williams for three
touchdown passes as Bishop’s improved their league record to 1-3.
The victory kept the Bishop’s playoff hopes alive
and also provided head coach Tony Addona with his first win at the university level.The defence set the tome on the opening series as
Raphael Boivin intercepted a pass by and returned it to the Mount A 48-yard line.
Williams wasted little time as he moved the ball into
the end zone in just three plays. He connected on a 41-yard bomb to Keith Godding
and after an incomplete pass he tossed a seven-yard touchdown pass to Sherbrooke native Javier Rivera that provided Bishop’s with a 7-0 lead.

Mount A territory this time courtesy of a Williams to pass that gave Bishop’s a first-and-ten at the Mounties.
The two teams exchanged safeties early in the
second half before Godding grabbed a 25-yard TD
pass from Williams to give the home team a 16-2 lead. Mount Allison.
The Mounties added a safety that cut the Gaiter
advantage to 16-4 as the two teams headed to the dressing room at halftime.
Bishops added to their lead in the third quarter on
another safety and Williams third TD pass, this time a 43-yard strike to David Delaby. Bishop’s
conceded a safety that cut their lead to 25-6 at the end of the third quarter and the Mounties made things interesting when Jon Hachey connected with Gary Wager on a 15-yard touchdown pass.
Jerome Lavoie had three interceptions for
Bishop’s while Phil Comeau and Ryan Smith each
had two picks and Boivin one. Dan McCullough led the team with 7.5 tackles
including two sacks.
Williams completed 11 of 26 passes for 237 yards while Jon Armstrong led all rushers with 84 yards
on 16 carries.
