Lady Gaiters open indoor soccer season
Team finishes 0-3 but demonstrates promise
January 26, 2003   Bishop's Sports Information

In their opening weekend, the Bishop’s University Women’s indoor soccer team faired well, finishing the weekend’s events with a 0-3 record, and gained some important indoor soccer experience.

In their first game of the tournament the team came out flat against UQTR, and dropped the contest 3-1. “It was the girls first game at this level, and we simply didn’t have enough practice time before this match and it showed,” said Lady Gaiters coach Michael Richardson.

The team then faced Ottawa in their second match and despite an improved performance in the second half dropped the event 2-0. “We played much better after the first half, the girls hit their stride, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the two goal deficit,” says Richardson.

In their final game, the team had numerous opportunities but unfortunately were never able to score, and finished the tournament at 0-3 dropping their final game 1-0 to UQAO. “I think we learned from this experience, it was a good first weekend in that regard and we will improve from it,” said Richardson. “Keep in mind that the girls played three very intense games in a 14 hour stretch, which is difficult for a number of reasons.”
